Popular music is pretty shitty already, and it's not auto-tune's fault, though the sooner the fad dies, the better.

We saw Ray a few years ago at a local jazz fest...in the pouring rain. We were all up on our feet dancing in the mud!

Like it or not, this technology is evolving, and recording a song is a combination of the singers' voices and the technology of mixing and editing. I was involved in recording a song a few months ago, and some variation on that technology was used, but the singer's voice still was what it was, and no editing changed that.

The best comment in this thread is that music (edited to add: pop music, at least) is an industry, not an artform. I'd also add that today, it is much, much more about image and marketing than artistic talent. In that respect, there are many "helpers" in use, from fake boobs to botox injections to outlandish behavior, for the image of the "artist".

I also like what WIP said. Tecnology is evolving, and auto-tune is a part of that technology. That's not to say I think it's a good thing, but it is what it is.
