Ban on skinny models

There's a BIG difference between recomendation and regulation...between addressing and mandating. Redmage's post says it all for me.

Right, they suggest you eat right and exercise, they dont have concentration sweat camps with nonwilling volunteers.

This is all comin from an obese man myself

From what I'm gathering via the article and other sources, the government is only banning the ultra-thin models from government sponsored fashion shows. That basically creates a gov't funded ad campaign through this very show, which I applaud.
Good point. I hadn't noticed the "government-funded" part. That makes a bit of a difference--to me at least.

That's the only reason I support the issue. I'm highly against the gov't telling us we can and cannot do with our bodies, but if we're willfully abusing those bodies the gov't shouldn't have to support it or pay for it.

Healthy look and a healthy body .........sounds good to me ...........

If precedent is set on this, what is to prevent the govt in mandating how heavy one person can be?
As Bella pointed out, the government's requirement applies only to modeling events that the government pays for. That doesn't seem to set a precedent for any sort of general regulation.

Also, this is only the government of the city of Madrid. It's not likely that a city would pass such a general ban anyway, since it would be too easy for people to move elsewhere.

I can't say I favor government spending on a modeling show to begin with, but if that's what the citizens of Madrid want, I reckon it could be worse.
