During my online meditations this morning, it occurred to me we've never heard the term Bare Midriff Fetish. Foot fetish, yes, there's tons of that here, there, and everywhere, but never in praise of the bare midriff. Fetish as being described as sexual arousal for a non sexual item or body part, but there's always room to argue that feet are very sensual and sexual if treated right, yes? There's also the original definition of that which is believed to contain power, and this would be equally true, considering the amount of time someone can meditate on such objects like they do here. But try to Google Bare Midriff Fetish, and virtually nothing shows up. Lots of bare midriffs, yes, but no real discussions of the subject.
Bare midriffs seem to be fairly scarce these days in the general public. At least up here in the northern country, when I can remember halter tops use to been seen everywhere during those magnificent 70's & 80's. Now it's very rare, and only with the very young experimenting with their new found powers of attraction and control over the male population. Maybe it was like that back then too, but it was still much more common than it is today. (And yes, I know you folks in California and Florida are going to be rubbing it in my face the fact that you folks can see them all the time, but this use to be more of a national thing.) Granted, there was the sexual revolution of the 60's which would have paved the way for the bare midriff explosion of the 70's, freer acceptance and freedom in general.
Could be it's not considered a fetish as it is the exposure of the torso in general, which contain sexual bits both north and south of there. Also with the Chakra system, the chakra governing sexuality is located right behind the navel, which would account for it's subject to gazing and meditation. Not to mention so much exposed ticklish skin to be seen. Yum. No wonder I got into belly dance so early on in life.
