Recently there was a post that had barefoot pics of Olivia Wilde. She was barefooted because she was supporting an event called "One Day Without Shoes." This effort, along with similar charities Soles 4 Souls and Samaritan's Feet, seek to raise awareness of the need to provide shoes for children and others in the United States and other countries, and encourage the donation of money and/or shoes. A number of female celebrities have agreed to go barefoot to support these programs.

I'm sure the charities do good work, and as far as I'm concerned any cause that encourages pretty girls to go barefooted is a good thing! Now if we could just persuade them that they should have a Tickling Booth, we could lock those bare feet in the stocks, charge a Nickel a Tickle, and do some serious fund raising. I would like to post some pictures in appreciation of the barefoot girls who support these charities with all their heart and sole(s).

The first pictures are Olivia Wilde, participating in a barefoot march in Venice, California. That's Julia Jones with her in the first two shots.

This next group is additional photos at the same event. You have to give these barefoot girls credit. I suspect most female stars have a regular pedicure schedule, and that makes for some pretty tender tootsies marching down those mean streets.

Kristen Bell was an important spokesperson for the "One Day Without Shoes" events, which took place in April of 2010. (The next one is scheduled for April 5, 2011.) These two pictures are from a cute video that she did to support the cause. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsFVLvx6QeA

Kristen Bell, Heather Graham, and Brittany Snow all did videos for this program. You can find them on YouTube by typing in "One Day Without Shoes." Alicia Silverstone and Rachel Zoe also supported this event.

It wasn't just celebrities that took part. The Middlebury Women's Lacrosse Team played barefooted to take part in ODWS.

The charity Soles 4 Souls sponsored National Barefoot Week in June of 2010. Some of the barefoot girls who support this group are Jessica Simpson, Kim Kardashian, Kristin Chenoweth, and Joss Stone. (How much effort did it take to persuade Joss Stone to go barefoot!)

Other female celebrities who supported Barefoot Week were Scarlett Johansson, Kellie Pickler, and Amy Grant. (Brittany Snow, who promoted ODWS was also involved in National Barefoot Week. She wins our special "Barefoot Girl of the Year" award.)

The charity Samaritan's Feet is popular on college campuses. Here we have the cheerleaders at IUPUI (Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis) performing barefoot to support this effort. At Gardner-Webb the Men's and Women's Basketball teams took part in "Barefoot for Bare Feet." The cheerleaders and dance team performed barefoot at both games.

On a more radical note, I want to mention one other girl who went barefoot for charity in a rather unique way. British TV personality Natalie Pinkham walked barefoot over hot coals to raise money for MND (Motor Neurone Disease). The popular television presenter was one of sixty people in Northampton who took part in this project. (All of those who participated were carefully prepared for the event, and no one was injured.)

Amazing! Come on Natalie, why don't you give the Tickling Booth a try! Surely after walking barefooted over hot coals, a few feathers on the soles of your bare feet shouldn't be a problem.

College basketball coach Ron Hunter has helped to promote Samaritans Feet on many college campuses. Lakeland College held a Barefoot Challenge, and several colleges have had Barefoot Graduations to collect donations of shoes and money.

April 5, 2011 - One Day Without Shoes

Just a reminder that "One Day Without Shoes" will take place on April 5, 2011. This event urges participants to go barefoot all or part of the day to highlight the plight of children in developing countries who can't afford footwear. Female celebrities Demi Moore, Heather Graham, Kristen Bell, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Olivia Wilde have promised to go barefoot that day.

Here we have pictures of Olivia Wilde and Julia Jones at a barefoot march last year in Venice, California.

One Day Without Shoes is a popular event on college campuses. Here we have girls from the University of Alabama at Bimingham and the University of Southern Mississippi.
