This is a self-indulgent and frivolous post, so skip it if you want serious sports commentary.
Last night something truly amazing happened at Dodger Stadium.
That is the correct name for the building, Dodger Stadium. Some people call it Chavez Ravine, but that is properly the name of the geographic location where Dodger Stadium was built. The confusion arises from the fact that the American League Los Angeles Angels rented the use of the building for their home games for four years, 1962 to 1965. They didn't want to say, "We are the Angels but we play in Dodger Stadium," so they said "We are the Angels and we play in Chavez Ravine."
How did the geographic location get its name? The first recorded owner of that land was Julian Chávez, who bought it in 1844. He also served on the Los Angeles City Council.
So, what happened last night? Dodger starter Kenta Maeda pitched six innings of 1-hit shutout baseball with no walks and 8 strikeouts. He tired in the seventh inning and was removed after giving up a run with one out. Louis Coleman came in to get the last two out in the seventh inning.
Then, it happened.
The 8th inning was pitched by Jesse CHAVEZ.
The 9th inning was pitched by Josh RAVIN.
Too bad about the missing E. 🙁
The pitching portion of the Dodgers box score:
Pitchers IP H R ER BB SO HR PC-ST ERA
Maeda
(W, 14-8) 6.1 3 1 1 1 8 0 102-67 3.29
Coleman 0.2 0 0 0 0 0 0 7-4 3.61
CHAVEZ 1.0 1 1 1 1 0 0 19-9 3.72
RAVIN 1.0 0 0 0 1 1 0 14-8 0.00
Totals 9.0 4 2 2 3 9 0 142-88
PS: The final score was Dodgers 10, Diamondbacks 2.
PPS: Josh Ravin himself noticed that this had happened and mentioned it to a reporter.
