After I found out what Bastinado meant, the only thing that that enters my mind's eye when I think of bastinado is a particularly brutal scene from Ninja Assassin, where the sensei/father figure brutally whips the boy's soles to shreds in instruction, in teaching him how to be a ninja. :stickout

(And I can't find a clip focussing solely on that scene so that's annoying. :cross🙂
