I'm listening to the new Beatles CD right now! You can preview it, too, courtesy of http://www.thebeatles.com/hearlove/index.php!

Here's the info directly from the label (courtesy of Amazon.com):

FIRST TIME EVER SPECIAL EDITION will include both the stereo CD and a BONUS AUDIO DVD packaged in a digi-package with O-card. The DVD is audio only and will contain 81 minutes of music in both 5.1 surround sound and stereo (presented in DVD-Audio MLP, DTS, Dolby and PCM).

LOVE is a fascinating reworking of numerous classic Beatles recordings by the band's original producer, Sir George Martin, and his son Giles. LOVE is also the title of the highly successful Cirque du Soleil show, a co-production with Apple Corps featuring the music of the Beatles, currently wowing audiences in Las Vegas. In creating the music for the show and for the album, George and Giles have created a continuous "soundscape"--a series of well-known Beatles songs augmented by additional instrumentation and vocals taken from their vast bank of original multi-track tapes. If you can imagine "Strawberry Fields Forever" beginning with John's original demo before going into an early take of the song and then climaxing in a musical collage including the piano solo from "In My Life" and the harpsichord pattern from "Piggies" and lots, lots more--or "Get Back" prefaced by the "Hard Day's Night" opening guitar chord, the guitar and drum solos from "The End," and segued into "Glass Onion," you will begin to get the picture. But hearing is believing! The guys have pushed back the boundaries and come up with a brand-new work that will add to the enduring legacy of the band. The result is an amazing album that not only reinforces the timeless quality of the group's recordings--the fans will have fun enjoying the roller-coaster experience of the album whilst trying to spot where all the pieces come from--it is also destined to open up a new legion of fans to the Beatles experience.

I read in the papers that Ringo and Paul along with their wifes as well as Yoko and Olivia Harrison were at the premier in Vegas. This is one that the Beatles approved as George Martin was involved. The Beatles were the best thing to happen to music in the past 100 years. These disc will be wildly popular.

I'm already on my second listen of the CD!

The way the songs are remixed, this CD will have a lot of appeal to both the 'younger generation' who like contemporary music, yet us 'old fogies' will like the CD because the songs are still faithful to the original Beatles recordings, with just enough 'tweaking' to make them sound fresh and exciting.

Yay! 😀 I'll have to pick that up sometime soon!
I'll be picking up a copy of the deluxe CD/DVD edition this Tuesday! I can hardly wait!

I was 9 years old when the fab four invaded the US and what an impact they made on me....

This is the best thing to come out musically in ages (IMHO)

Thank you for brining it to our attention sir!

You're very welcome, Venray, my friend! How could I keep this a secret?!!

I think I was in first grade when I first saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan "Shew." I still regard them as the best band ever. I've heard that George Martin was remixing and doing something new to many Beatles tunes for Ice Shows and whatnot, but this is the first I've heard about the release for the public.

What fascinates me are choices George Martin made for transitions, or medleys. I'm very curious to see how these segues will occur, particularly with Within You Without You and Tomorrow Never Knows.

Thanks for the heads up, Frankie!

Yeah, no kidding!! 🙂
Not to mention Blue Jay Way and Mr Kite!

I agree. It's good to see some of the less prominent songs getting some attention. Speaking of "Tomorrow Never knows," I'm always reminded of that song whenever I crank up my parabolic dish heater from Costco. It makes a humming sound remarkably similar to the opening sitar in that song.

Just curious. Did anyone here buy this on the first day? If so, any thoughts or recommendations?

I think that as soon as somebody can pry the headphones off of Frankie, he just might give us a review! 😀

Hey, Drew! Well, I did it! I went out and bought the special edition version of that CD yesterday. It comes with a DVD which I haven't played yet. As for the music on the CD... I was blown away! I listened to the CD on my car stereo as I went about my business. I wanted to just pull over and park just so I could spend time listening to the CD without worrying about the traffic.

As for the songs, I particularly loved how well George Harrison's vocals from "Within You Without You" fit with the drumbeat and tamboura from "Tomorrow Never Knows." Some of the songs could be categorized as a 'mash-up,' where two different songs are blended into one, but the technique works beautifully!

Paul's bass playing in "Hey Jude" is brought more to the forefront during the "Na na na nana na na" section, revealing a 'funkier' side to the song than what I've previously heard while listening to it (and I've heard it over a million times, more or less).

Another great moment among the many is George's original vocals from the demo version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," now fitted with a completely new orchestral accompaniment composed by George Martin, the Beatles producer. This is supposedly the last musical composition Sir George will write for Beatles oriented projects, perhaps his last composition, period. It's nice to see that he hasn't lost his magic touch after all these years.

Ever wonder what "Strawberry Fields Forever" would sound like without the otherworldly sounding vocals from John Lennon? Here you'll hear the song go through its subtle changes but John's voice remains intact throughout. The studio wizardry that made his voice sound 'weird' in the recognized version of the song is 'deleted' here. In other words, this is John's voice 'unplugged.'

There you have it. I think Beatles fans will love this CD. I wasn't too sure I wanted to hear my beloved Beatles songs 'messed with' in this way but after hearing the results, I love it! This makes me appreciate the original Beatles songs that much more, too. So go out and by a copy and see and hear it for yourself. If you don't like the CD, feel free to create a thread titled, "Why Featherfingers Sucks." I think you'll wind up thanking me instead.

I bought it tonight and am only about five songs in. So far, it's fascinating and entertaining. Glass Onion, with its swirl of other Beatles favorites, was highly enjoyable through the headphones.
A real bonus for me is the booklet which contains numerous psychedelic images. My favorite here is a Revolver-era Lennon facing what appears to be a rising sun ala the Japanese symbol.
This is a trip all unto itself, especially for someone like me who is a big fan of the Bill Graham-era Fillmore posters. I would not be surprised to see a lot of these images offered in poster size.
