Okay, I know our esteemed mod Venray doesnt like "polls", but since this isnt about politics, I thought it was worthy of posting. I heard on CNN Headline News today that an online (I'll call it a "survey") was taken, and that "Ob La Di, Ob La Da" by the Beatles, and sung by Mccartney, was voted as the absolute worst song in history. I must confess that I actually do like that song, although I did read in a biography about John Lennon that during the last days of the Beatles, he berated Mccartney about that song, calling it Paul's "granny" music to quote Lennon. I find it hard to believe that with as classic as Beatles songs are that ANY song by any Beatle, especially when they were a member of the band and together, could be voted worst anything, but this is how it was voted, according to this survey. I like the song, bad or not, but apparently, the online community of people who voted in this survey did not.

I'm not a Beatles fan, and "Oob La Di" is probably one of their more lousy songs, but there's no way I would agree it's the worst song in history. There are so many more awful songs out there deserving of that title.
Actually the band The Offspring did kind of a rewrite of "Oob La Di" a couple years back that was hysterical called "Why Don't You Get a Job". It almost made me appreciate the Beatles original.

And this is worse than a "horse with no name"

or

"Goo goo goo da da da da?"

Yikes!!!!

I don't even think Obli De Obla Da is the worst Beatles song, let alone the worst song ever. The worst song ever is "When the Music's Over" by the Doors.

The worst song in history? Hard to say. Why-yi-yi,why-yi-yi,why-yi-yi,
I'd have to say "The Reflex" from Duran Duran.

A Beatles song the worst song ever? Nah... most of the stuff in the UK music charts are ten times as pants as "Ob La Di, Ob La Da". For example, a piss-poor sample of Steve Winwood's Valerie in a Swedish DJs records was at No.1 for 4 weeks, only because of the soft-porn video.

I'm outraged that one of my faves, "Barbie Girl" by Aqua, was not number one:ignite:

The Sean Man

It wouldn't surprise me in the least to find out that the knotheads who voted in this poll are avid listeners of Justin Timberlake.

One of my absolute least favorite songs in history is by one of my favorite artists, Billy Joel. The one song that I cant stand by him is "Goodnight Saigon"! ICK! I have just always detested that song. I know that the subject matter about the Vietnam war is a serious one, but I have just always thought it to be a depressing song that I hated. Only my opinion of course.

I hear you loud and clear, KNOX! The truth be told, the worst song by The Beatles would probably be a thousand times more listenable than what passes for music these days.

There is a song by The Beatles, however, that was never released. (Thank God!) I have a copy of the full length version on a bootleg CD. The song is called, "What's The New Mary Jane?" Absolutely awful! And I'm one of The Beatles greatest fans! Here's a sample line from that song...

"What a shame Mary Jane had a pain at the party... what a shame Mary Jane... what a shame Mary Jane had a pain at the party..."

The music behind the lyrics wasn't much better. The song is also on "Anthology 3", if you're interested.

I always knew 'What's the New Mary Jane' existed, but I never heard it. From what you described, it sounds like something along the lines of 'You Know My Name', which was the flip of 'Let It Be'. Just a mish-mash of strange, drug induced stuff with no beginning or end. My problem with the Beatles is that they split up way too soon. They never gave us the opportunity to see them post '60s, not having given us a lot more of the collective genius. I figured that a strong, creative Beatles would definitely have been the antedote to the overrated Eagles with 'Hotel California' and the Steve Miller Band, and all those other mid '70s Woodstock refugee bands who were already fat, and were already parodies of themselves.

Justin Timberlake and Avril Lavigne and Sheryl Crow and Shania Twain and all this other disposable crap have no place on my shelves. Neither did the Steve Miller Band, though

The Sean Man

You gotta admit, Sean Man, it had a hooky beat

And don't act like you never sung the lyrics when it came on. Obviously, since that song went platinum, a million people loved it😛
