Every Sports Fan has Memorable Moments that are Great and Moments that, well aren't so Great.

Best:

-"The Midnight Miracle in Dallas" The Redskins beat Dallas on Two Late TD Bombs from Mark Brunell to Santana Moss with under 3 Minutes to go after doing nothing before that. (Week 2, 2005)

-The Redskins beat the Cowboys 35-7 (Week 15, 2005)

-Tony Romos Bobbled Snap. (2006 NFC Wildcard) WON $50

-The Broncos beat the Steelers on the First play in OT. (I love Tim Tebow) (2011 AFC Wildcard) WON $125

Worst:

-The First game after Sean Taylor was Killed. They lost the game on a Late Field Goal after Calling Back to Back Timeouts and being Penalized 15 Yards. That's the only Game I ever Cried over. I was crying before the Game when they showed the Tribute Video on the Jumbo-Tron (Week 13, 2007)

-The Redskins Lose to the Lions, ending they're 19 Game Losing Skid. (Week 3, 2009)

-The Redskins Fake Field Goal vs the Giants. (That was the Franchise in a Nutshell) (Week 15, 2009)

-When Micheal Vick had in my opinion the Greatest Individual Performance in NFL History. (Week 10, 2010)

What are Yours?

Best:
Game 7 of the 1955 World Series (Dodgers win their first World Series ever on Johnny Podres' shutout.)
Game 4 of the 1963 World Series (Dodgers complete a sweep of the Yankees on Koufax's great performance.)
Game 1 of the 1988 World Series (Kirk Gibson's walk-off home run in the bottom of the 9th with two outs.)

Worst:
Game 3 of the 1962 special playoff series for the NL pennant. I literally cried for days when that game was over.

I'm gonna limit this to moments I actually watched

Best....a bit hard for a DC fan to come up with notables, but I have a few for each sport:
NFL: The Redskins winning the NFC East the night after Christmas in Overtime against the San Francisco 49ers. One of the moments my dad and I shared together and we both were celebrating as if they had won the Super Bowl that night.
HM: The Redskins creaming the Cowboys in 2005 thanks to 3 Cooley TDs

NHL: Sergei Fedorov scoring late in the 3rd period against the New York Rangers in Game 7. I saw this game while in a college class and the class had JUST ended when Fedorov scored the game winner.
HM: Joe Juneau scoring the game winner in overtime against the Buffalo Sabres sending the Caps to their lone Stanley Cup Finals appearance.

MLB: Jayson Werth hitting the walk off home run against the Cardinals in game 4 of the playoffs this past season.
HM: Ryan Zimmerman's walk off home run to win the first ever game at Nationals Park.

NCAA Basketball: George Mason defeating Connecticut in the Elite 8 in 2006 and reaching the Final Four
HM: Sherrod Wright's game-winning 3-pt shot on Valentines Day this year against the VCU Rams. Place went Bananas.

Worst......whooo boy...there's a bunch:

NHL: Watching a 3-1 Capitals series lead against the Montreal Canadiens slip away and see them lose game 7 at home in 2010.
HMs: Getting swept by Tampa Bay next season, losing Game 5 against the Rangers thanks to a high-sticking penalty

MLB: Game 5 Cardinals-Nationals...top 5....a missed check swing by Frese and the next thing we know, we lose 9-7 and everyone blames the fact we shut down Strasburg.
HM: Jeffrey Maier in 1996...I still remember

NFL:...a lot I could choose from...but if I had to choose just one....the first loss after Sean Taylor's death in 2007 is a good one to go with.

Best:

Alabama Winning the National Championship in Football 2009

Alabama Winning the National Championship in Football 2011

SEC's 7 year domination of the BCS

Philadelphia Phillies World Series 2008

2011 San Francisco 49ers Season

Worst:

Alabama losing to Utah in 2008 in the Sugar Bowl

Alabama's seasons pre 2009...post 1992

Phillies losing the World Series in 2009 to the fucking Yankees

Flyers many seasons of coming up short

Best moments
> Watching Sunderland win the First Division championship in 1999
> Gloucester beating Toulouse 34-24 in the Heineken Cup
> Roger Federer winning his 7th Wimbledon singles title

Worst moments
> Sunderland being relegated from the Premiership in 1997, 2003, and 2006.
> England missing out on the Six Nations title in 2012, even though they weren't expected to win
> Kimi Raikkonen crashing out of the 2005 European GP with one lap to go.

Best Moments- Scotland Rugby beating Japan 100-8.
Andy Murray winning Olympic gold 2012.
Chris Hoy winning three golds at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Worst Moments- Scotland Rugby losing every game against New Zealand in my memory.
Scotland National Football (soccer) team playing against Czech Republic with the formation 4- 6- 0... a most painful game to watch.

Best: Detroit Pistons destroying the Lakers in the 2004 NBA Finals. Seeing them win the title was great by itself. Beating the Lakers made it even better.

Worst: I'm a Detroit Lions fan. There are so many. I have to say the worst would have to be the 0-16 season in 2008. If the Lions ever won the Super Bowl that would no doubt become the best for myself and many others.

best: gets by buckner, rounding 3rd is knight, the mets win the ball game
scott norwood wide right giants superbowl
1994 rangers stanley cup

worst; 2000 superbowl loss to the ravens
2000 world series loss to the "yuck" yankees

from england, best moment beating germany 5-1, worst moment losing to germany at the worldcup after that goal was a legal goal and did not count #nerverfotget

charlton athletic fan- best moment 98 play off finall we won 7-6 on pens, after 4-4, worst moment losing to palace

That was ANOTHER one of my worst moments, because it was my team you beat on penalties! Lol

oh my sunderland fan, i love sunderland fans becuase we all experienced the best match ever, both teams deserved to go up , you had phillps but we had super clive mendonca

I'd like to add ANOTHER moment: 1st of December 2012, when England beat New Zealand 38-21. What a game! 😀

Best:

Cleveland Indians go to the World Series in 1995; it was bittersweet because my mom died over a month before the Series.

Browns beating Steelers (even though it's been two times in over two decades).

Browns vs Cowboys....the look on Troy Aikman's face that day was priceless. They thought they had an easy win, but even the sun shines on a dog's arse occasionally. I know the bookies were pissed that day.

Cleveland Cavaliers going to finals (although I'm not a NBA fan, but liked the atmosphere in the city that year).

Worst:

Cleveland Indians losing World Series that year, then again in 1997 when they punked out to the Marlins.

Cleveland Browns Red, right, 80 loss to Buffalo Bills.

Cleveland Browns "the drive" when John Elway singlehandely whipped our behinds and flushed our Super Bowl hopes down the toilet.

Cleveland Browns Ernest Byner "the fumble." I wanted to kill him myself that day.

Cleveland Cavaliers getting beat down in the Finals 0-4. But it was good that they went, but they got no love from Houston that year.

Sorry, can't remember the years but I'm sure some of you have them.....

It really sucks to be a fan to a crappy team doesn't it? I truly feel your pain, trust me.

What's worse is when the Browns and Lions get together.....it's pure battle of the basement teams. I think that's the time when Detroit plays their best because no one wants to lose to the Browns!

I see we get the option of multiple moments... okay

BEST

By FAR-- The Saints WIN Super Bowl 44~! - _Many tears left but a smile never left my face for a good week after that win!

LSU wins Nat'l Championships in Jan '04 & '08...

The Superdome re-opens on 9/25/06 & we smoke the Falcons 23-3... Steve Gleason & Curtis DeLoatch are etched into Saints history & obscurity like Brian Milne from 2000

Saints FIRST EVER PLAYOFF WIN EVER in 2000 against the Rams - see above. (I still have an audio file of the radio call at the end of the game; "There is a God after all!"

After that, sordid number of LSU victories in Tiger Stadium when I was a very drunk college student!

WORST...

Fuckin' Bama smokes us last year to win the title.... 1/9/12, I will never forget.

Best: still waiting for that to happen

Worst: Wide Right,Music City Non Pass, Goal in the effin' crease vs Dallas (NFL,NFL & NHL)

Worst, losing the FA Cup final in 1990 & going out on penalties to the Germans, 1990 sucked!

Best, Euro 96, the whole country went beserk & beating Brighton all the time!

from england, best moment beating germany 5-1, worst moment losing to germany at the worldcup after that goal was a legal goal and did not count #nerverfotget

charlton athletic fan- best moment 98 play off finall we won 7-6 on pens, after 4-4, worst moment losing to palace

Lol I love beating Charlton!

But I was there that day we drew 2-2 and you relegated us in 05, that day sure sucked, bleeding Jonathan Fortune!

I remember the classic play off semi in 04, which we won on penalties, Whitley with the worst penalty I ever did see, big Mick was fuming!

Haha, I remember that shoot out. Absolute nightmare. Lol

And I agree with you about Euro 96. What a summer that was!

Best:

Carlos Baerga's fly ball to Marquis Grissom on October 28, 1995, giving the Braves their only World Series title in Atlanta.

Also: Fransisco Cabrera's hit off Stan Belinda, Game 7, 1992 NLCS, bottom of the 9th, giving the Braves the 1992 NL championship.

And: Kenny Rogers bases loaded walk to Andruw Jones, Game 6 of the 1999 NLCS, giving the Braves the 1999 NL Championship, and beating the hated Mets.

Worst. a tie.

Game Four, 1996 WS, Braves V Yankees. Jim Leyritz 3 run homer off Braves closer Mark Wohlers, erasing a 6-0 Braves lead, and setting up a game where the Yankees would eventually win the game, and overcome a two games to none deficit in the series, with four straight wins, to become 1996 World Champions.

Game Two-1992 World Series. Ed Sprague's homer off Jeff Reardon, which erased a Braves lead, and allowed the Blue Jsys to tie the 1992 Series at one game apiece, and was likely the turning point in the 1992 World Series, which allowed the Jays to win.

Best moments:
1999: Watching the Stars win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history (sorry deep innie)
2010 & 2011: Watching the Texas Rangers go to their first World Series in back to back years
2011: Watching the Dallas Mavericks beat the "super dream team" Miami Heat in six games to win their first NBA championship (I still to this day have game six of the Finals on my DVR)

2007: Patrick Crayton drops a pass that could have sent the Dallas Cowboys to the Super Bowl (They had home field throughout and owned the Green Bay Packers at Texas Stadium)
2007: The Mavericks get laughed out of the playoffs as the number one seed to the eight seed Golden St. Warriors (It wouldnt have mattered who was what seed, the Warriors would have beat the Mavericks regardless)
2006: The Mavericks got screwed out of their first chance at a championship thanks to David Stern, the NBA refs, and Dwyane "Look At Me and its a foul" Wade (Im never gonna get over that)

Watching the Red Sox win the World Series in 2004. Unless you were out on Yawkey Way that night you can never know what it was like. Strangers walking around crying and hugging each other. It was amazing and I've never seen anything like it.

best moment Steelers winning the superbowl vs the cards .. close runner up steelers winning the superbowl vs the seahawks... worst moment steelers losing the superbowl vs the packers

I was born in 1983 and only truly care about 2 teams: the Jets and the Mets.

I've spent adolescence through young adulthood watching the cross-town Giants and Yankees win several and countless championships, respectively, with the much bigger fanbases of those teams surrounding me to have to watch celebrate. Meanwhile, the hated Braves dominated the NL East in the 90's, and the even more loathsome Phillies dominate the NL East in the late 2000's, after the Mets blew it in 2006. Add to that the despised Patriots dominant run over that time. You get the picture. Sports have been mostly pain for me. I'm not even sure how I would cope with success.
