I don't know if this helps but all of my clips are available for sale in wmv format, and recently started making them in mp4 for the benefit of those MAC users, trying to find a universal format which anybody can play with QuickTime, but still you have the option of buying the clip in wmv format.

Download the K-lite codec pack, use the included player, Media Player Classic. It can play nearly anything, including Quicktime videos. It's also a very lite program. Can play DVD's, Mov, any kind of WMV or MP4, and it includes the codecs to make even Windows Media Player not such a piece of crap if ya choose to use it.

VLC will work wonders too, it can play some videos even without you possessing the codecs for it (Lots of included plugins)

After using VLC or MPC, you'll never touch Windows Media Player again. You can also uninstall Quicktime forever.

Real Media though, there is no cure for that horrible program and its crappy file extension.
