Biggest punch in gut as a fan of your sport/team

Being a Seattle fan is a punch in the gut just by itself. I don't know if I am loyal or just stupid but I will always believe in my teams just to be shut down early and often. Oh well, just preparing me for life I guess haha.

One of the most (unfortunately) memorable was when Mike Mussina left the Orioles to sign with the Yankees in the late 90s. Certainly left a real bad taste in the mouths of baseball fans in Baltimore, and marked the beginning of the 13 year slide.

Another would be the carousel of NFL teams that feigned interest in moving to Baltimore, without a realisitc shot of that happening. This hit its peak when Paul Tagliabue awarded an expansion team to Carolina and then took the coward's way off the podium by announcing that the other team would be determined at a later date. This cemented that Baltimore would not be one of those cities, despite having the best deal on the table.

Honorable mention goes to the Colts skipping town in the middle of the night, though I was only 5 years old at the time. Therefore it had no emotional impact on me, though I cannot imagine how heartbroken this city must have been. I'm glad I was not old enough to understand, but I certainly do now.

Adam, I'm a fellow Baltimorean and I love both the O's and the Ravens. That being said, I really can't blame Mussina for leaving the O's for the Yanks. The Orioles were(and still are) a joke, wallowing in last place while the Yanks are perennial contenders. If I was Moose, I probably would've done the same thing.
My biggest punch in the gut is the fact that the Ravens who by and large are a very competitive, and successful team, always get their butts kicked by Manning and the fr***ng Colts. Next to the Steelers, there's nobody I hate more than the Colts, and I'll always feel that way as long as they're owned by an Irsay.

How do you think the Browns feel? The Colts won a Super Bowl in their 23rd-season after relocation. The Ravens won their SB in their 5th-season.

I'd have to say the 2003 Playoff collapse of the Giants vs. the 49ers, where the Giants were up 35-14. Shockey taunts, & drops a pass that could have made it 42-14. Giants kick a field goal to make it 38-14, & then San Francisco behind Jeff Garcia & Terrell Owens score the game's final 25 points. However, even though there was pass interference on the final play that wasn't called, I don't assign (much, no more than a grand total of 5%) blame to the holder or the kicker or the referee - 24-point leads should not be blown in the playoffs!
