Well, I have just found out that Bobby Cox, the manager of my favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves, has been named National League Manager of the year for the second time, and manager of the year for the third time, winning the American League manager of the year with the Toronto Blue Jays back in 1985. Iam very happy for Bobby, who is one of the game's best managers, and never seems to get enough credit. He has done a tremendous job with the Braves in the last two years. In spite of losing Tom Glavine, Kevin Millwood, Greg Maddux, Gary Sheffield, half his bullpen, and many of his top reserves, he has still won divisional flags the last two years in spite of AOL's massive payroll cuts. The Braves, who were predicted to finish third in each of the last two years, have defied the odds and all logic by winning the division both times. I attribute this to Bobby and his coaching staff, especially pitching coach "Rocking" Leo Mazonne , and their ability to put together a team that wins divisional titles in spite of all the massive personnel changes. The Braves, as they have the last two years, are facing payroll and personnel issues this winter, but after the player defections of the last two years, and the stellar results on the field in spite of them, I have confidence that the Braves can make a run at another division title in 2005.
So, hats off to you, Bobby, and congratulations. You are a humble manager who always likes to credit your players, and never take credit yourself. Well, your players had a fine season on the field, and Iam happy that you have been recognized for the fine job you did with the team in 2004. In a year we all thought the dynasty of winning divisional flags might end, you brought us yet another, our 13th in a row, with your stellar leadership.
