You DO know I was speaking about moving in a "vertical" direction, that is closer to the foul line or further away from it, correct? That shouldn't influence anything except for the finishing position of the ball at the pocket, and can solve your corner pin problem most nights.
As for being consistent, that's what practice is for...and practice...and practice...lol. I can remember throwing 5 full games of nothing but 10 pin shots when I used to actually practice what I preach. Form is everything in bowling, and maintaining it calls for good leg muscles and proper techniques. Another common problem is not watching your mark until the ball rolls over it, causing your head to move/pop up and ruining consistent outcomes as well. Damn...it's a looong list when you get started on bowling probs...fast feet is another typical culprit leading to errors. That closed shoulder I spoke about earlier influences things greatly when you're swinging that big hook.
Flatfoot, nothing wrong with a medium arc if that's what you have to work with, although if you're lefty it IS a shame not to bend that thing. Might be a good investment to look up your house pro and grab a few lessons....
