I read an article in the Atlanta Journal Constitution today, which stated that the Braves attendance in 2014 was only 29,000 a game, or about 2.3 million for the season. This ranked.. 18th, I believe, among the 30 major league teams.
The Yankees were third.. with over three million drawn, and the Mets were near the bottom with but about 1.8 million. (Mentioning that because I live in NYC of course, even though I';m a Braves fan)
Granted, the Braves finished under 500 this year, but, they were in competition for a division and a wild card, until their September collapse. The article also stated that the Braves attendance has steadily fallen over the last decade. While they had fallen off in the standings, since their 2005 division title. From 2009 to the present, , they were in competition for the wild card, and won the wild card a couple of times, and of course, the NL East last year.
I think.. their falloff in attendance had many contributing factors. Their disappointing play and failing to make the wild card, the last month of the season, the still struggling economy, and the fact that historically, baseball fans in Atlanta can/have been apathetic.
Mils Dodgers led the league in attendance this year.
Hopefully, the Braves will fare better in the standings, and at the gate next year.
