break up songs?

hmm..i dont know about a breakup song..as much as missing the person you broke up with a lot and realzing youve made the mistake, only to find out they are with someone else. so id say..

Nelly, Tim McGraw.."Over and Over".

Before I knew any better, I used to have weird ideas about the song, "Break Up To Make Up", by The Stylistics. I thought that the guy was so distraught over breaking up, that he became a drag queen and began wearing make up.

Seriously, if you want to hear great break up songs, go to a classic Soul station. That's one reason why it's called 'Soul' music anyway... the songs affect you deep down into your Soul.

How has noone mentioned "No Woman, No Cry" yet? maybe not quite as appropriate for some girls, but that song was DESIGNED for guys who have just had their hearts torn out.

anyway if youre looking for a bit of diversity try

The Unforgiven - Metallica (hate them, but i have to admit its a good song)

A Spaceman came Travelling - Chris De Burgh (not exactly relevant, but a nice melody)

Kryptonite - Three Doors Down (If it doesnt make you cry theres somthing wrong with you 😀)

Of course if youre looking to get OVER it and cheer up, you need to listen to metal 😀 nothing better than an Iron Maiden track to make you think "Im tougher than this" and pull yourself together. S'been my lifeline through some pretty nasty stuff, so if you wanna give that a try i have a list of about 1241912 good songs 😉

Uh..

Any guy who lets his heart get torn out by a break up isn't much of a guy in my opinion.

Tron

any guy who says that has never met a girl that he didnt have to pay for in my opinon 😉

Any guy who doesn't get torn up over the break up of his relationship must not have had a very loving relationship with the lady to begin with.

Agreed.

Guess it depends - dumper or dumped?
Me - always dumped.
Worse song to hear AFTER being dumped - 'When I'm With You' by Sherrif.
Also, 'Creep' by STP.

That's a less abrasive way of putting it.

"Ruby's Arms" covered by Megan Mullally

I will leave behind
All of my clothes
I wore when I was with you.
All I need's my railroad boots
and my leather jacket.
As I say goodbye to Ruby's Arms,
though my heart is breaking.
I will steal away out through your blinds.
Soon you will be waking.
The morning light has washed your face
And everything is turning blue.
Hold on to your pillowcase.
There's nothing that I can do.
As I say goodbye to Ruby's Arms.
You'll find another soldier.
And I swear to God, by Christmas time,
There'll be someone new to hold you.
The only thing I'm taking is
the scarf off of your clothesline.
Hurry past your chest of drawers
And your broken windchimes.
As I say goodbye, I say goodbye.
I say goodbye to Ruby's Arms.
I will feel my way down the darkened hall
And out into the morning.
The hobos at the freight yard
Have kept their fires burning.
And I say, Jesus Christ.
This goddamned rain.
Will someone put me on a train?
I'll never kiss your lips again
Or break your heart.
As I say goodbye. I say goodbye.
I say goodbye
To Ruby's Arms.

And "The End of the World" by Skeeter Davis.

Doesn't Matter

Either way is accurate. A man doesn't "do" break up songs.

Not a "manly" man, no. But then even blokes have a feminine side, and I'm not talking about being a arse-roaring, chutney ferret either. ( Apologies Krokus if you're reading this. I'm just being graphic for Tron's sake. 😉 )

There's space in the world for all sorts of men. Personally I like break up songs because 99% of pop songs are frigging sappy love songs that make me want to projectile vomit straight in the face of the nearest songwriter. Miserable songs make me feel a bit better. Perverse, yes. But true.

I'm always wary of men who claim they "don't do" emotion. It's unhealthy to lie to yourself and everyone else like that. Always leads to an explosion. A scary one. Drop the act, boys! It's no fun to hug a rock.
Muah!

how about that country song...."i'd be better off in a pine box on a slow train home to georgia", by doug stone?

*Men* don't avoid emotion. Boys do, but not men. They feel, they care, and they love. Very deeply. And when they break up with someone they truly loved it's not a just little setback, it's a major, life changing occurance. Many real men do take time to listen to such songs and allow themselves to be melancholy for a time, before healing and moving on. It makes them human, not effeminate.

One thing I've noticed is that the *men* who try to tell us that all men should think and act a certain way are usually single. For a reason :sowrong: .

Tron, with all due respect... I'm 100% man and my favorite songs are the sad love songs that, yes, cause tears to fill my eyes. I love music that moves me and those songs do just that. Even certain instrumentals have a tendency to make me 'misty eyed', because the music is just so beautiful. Call me a pansy if you will, but if there's one thing in my life that I'm proudest of, it's the fact that I listen to (and respond to) the music I love and I make no apologies about it.

The next time you hear the song "I Shall Be Released", by The Band, for example, really get into the music and emotion of that song. It affects me even harder because I know that the lead singer of that song committed suicide a few years later.

I know many men who are real men and they do get emotional with sad songs. 🙂

Thank you, Sexicana!

Forgive me, TickleMeCasey, but at the risk of hijacking your thread, I'd like to show just one more piece of evidence that Real men do cry, get emotional, etc.etc. I was raised in a Latino family and thank goodness my Dad never held his feelings inside. I've seen him cry many times and he's still prone to showing his emotions, especially last year when the doctors found out he only had one artery in his heart that was functioning. Thank God he survived the operation. He's doing very well these days, by the way. If he had held his emotions in instead of releasing them, the whole thing may have turned out very differently.:

so you got badly hurt by someone special did you tron? only explaination i can come up with on why youre so phobic about the whole issue..

anyway strictly speaking i dont "do" break up songs either, not in the way you seem to approach it anyway. i dont start listening to depressing music and paining my walls black or anything. the last break up that got me upset i basically got drunk and put my headphones on blaring heavy metal on till 4am or somthing. they were break up songs because they made me feel better after id broken up, but they werent "break up songs" as in flowers and mushy lyrics, tears etc.

like bigjim i absolutely hate todays pop music (might be somthing to do with being british 😉) so i dont really listen to any love songs, doesnt stop the songs i do listen to in helping me cheer up after a bad time
