.......then its a very different story. The Aussies take gold on this basis with Cuba the silver and Hungary the bronze.

The U.K. on a medals per head of population come in well ahead of the U.S.A. in 18th and 22nd place respectively.

On average 3,6000,000 people were needed to produce one medal.

Quite true, but the Aussies have a much smaller population, yet the dominate (relatively speaking) the medal standings. This country has never supported our athletes. The Winter Games in Vancouver, BC coming in 2010 will be no different if we don't give these people the support they need.

Total Population Is Meaningless..

Population density is more important, all the Ausdsies are concentrated in smaller locations.

Here's an example. The State Of Idaho has roughly 1,000,00 people or so. Yet if you took the best athletes in the state and matched them up against the best athletes of a community of 500,000 people, the community athletes would win.
