Bulb Blew.. (Humorous, I Think )

Last night, something happened, that I had never seen before.

It was almost a bit.. humorous.

I have a desk lamp on my desk , next to my computer.

We all know how bulbs burn out, and we say. "Okay, the light "Blew " out"

This bulb in my lamp .. actually "Blew out"

I heard a loud "Pop!" The light went out, and fragments of the bulb actually shattered.. on the desk, and on the floor.

I cleaned it up, of course, and thankfully, it did not harm me, my desk, or my computer.

Has anyone else ever had something similar happen?

The only time that happened to me was when (and I knew better) I used a damp paper towel to wipe the dust off a bulb (which was turned on). Ain't done that since then,,,,,

Agree with what rdhd is sort of getting at. It's highly unusual for a modern incandescent bulb to just explode. Is it possible that something struck the bulb or a liquid somehow dripped onto it?

I dont know.

I never drink anything near my computer, as I want to make sure nothing spills on it. (A bit obsessive about that)

When I wiped the desk/lamp off before it happened, I just did it with a dry paper towel, probably a day earlier.

It might have been a freak accident, not sure.
