Cack =/= Art

You know, I really didn't want to get involved in this again, but since my name's been brought up, I have to clarify a few things.

1) I was invited to participate in the tutorial project. I neither accepted nor turned down the proposition. As things stand, I have decided that my participation may not be all that neccesary for two reasons. I'm a CGI artist, and there are maybe, what...five of us around? Two of whom need absoutely no instruction from me. Furthermore, even within the small clique of CGI artists, I'm kinda different. I don't do things the "ordinary" way. Most of what I do is post-render, using ArcSoft and PhotoShop techniques specific to me alone. I doubt they'd be of much use to anyone unless they were happy with "copying" my exact style. In the future, I may do a tutorial or two on basic Poser stuff if I felt it could be of use to someone new, starting out or looking for some new tricks.

2) I'm not really on a "side" here, as I don't feel sides need to be taken. Yes, there were problems between LGZ and I, but these were personal, handled in PM's and settled. Had nothing to do with tutorials.

3) And just to completely specify my feelings on this whole thing. I never had any problem with the idea of tutorials. Or with a group of artists getting together for a specific project of tutorials. That's what the How To subforum is for. My initial problem was with certain artists being "outed", so to speak, as somehow "lesser" and pointed at by name. That overall attitude of "we need to do this because people like that need our help." (Not saying that this was specifically said, but I wanted to make sure that it wasn't, or that other artists were having it said in thier names when they did not feel that way.)

Guys, bottom line. The tutorial thing is a great idea. For everyone. Not just certain people. All of us could use some help bettering ourselves. And that goes for me and everyone else right up the line. I'll be the first to thank someone for showing me a way to make my art better.

My only desire is to make sure that those who are just posting here for fun feel comfortable doing so. Those who want help know where to go for it, and I'm sure will appreciate it. Those who are just "having fun" should feel free to continue doing so. Criticism will (and shold) continue to happen, in all shapes and forms...and as long as it adheres to the rules we've set down for this particular forum. Those rules are not in place to "gloss over" people's shortcomings or to be shiny and happy all the time. They apply to all aspect of the forum, and art falls into that.

The How To forum is open to anyone who wants to use it. You don't have to be part of a project in order to post there. Again, if certain artists want to get together and do something like that which has been mentioned, it is welcome.

I think we can all co-exist here succesfully. Let's just keep it civil. This constant argueing isn't helping. We all have our points of view and are entitled to them. Saying "good job" to someone is not a bad thing, even if it's not really warranted. It happens. People post here and have freinds here. On the other hand, you must understand that you have to have a somewhat thick skin if you are going to post your art for the world to see on a public forum. You can do with the criticism what you wish.

Why don't we all just move along and get on with what we want to do? I think all points have been covered.
