Califronia / tickling / opinions welcome

As someone wuho lives in San Diego, I would recommend it whole-heartedly. Beautiful weather, much less crap (traffic, smog, people) than LA, but it's not a small town either. And very beautiful women. Lots of skin can be seen year-round.

Not a cheap place to live anymore though. And a very conservative town as well. Should you like more info, please feel free to let me know. Best of luck to you in your search.

I live in Los Angeles and would never suggest to anyone I like that they move here. I think San Diego would be much better if you HAVE to be in California. Keep in mind that everything here is expen$ive and you don't get what you pay for. Arizona also has a very dry and warm climate, and so does Florida and they are much more affordable.

I hope your health improves. Good luck! 🙂

I live up in the Bay Area. It can get cold here but nowhere near as bad Wisconsin. Also this area strikes me as SUPER SUPER liberal. Well at least in Berkeley

The SF Bay Area job market is tight - downright desperate if you're in high-tech. All those dead .coms and all.

Plus, there's a basic problem with California: we don't know if the power is gonna hold. It's complicated, but basically we're going to face more blackouts. The Governor signed long-term energy contracts at the height of the crisis, and now wants the Feds to let 'em back out - but the "extra" money in the contracts is what was going to pay for power plant construction. With those contracts now up in the air via court actions, the energy companies aren't building plants. We *could* have trouble by this summer, but regardless we're looking at more blackouts within a few years.

And *that* means that major energy users such as Intel, HP and such can't invest here. No guarantee there'll be power. Those blackouts cost them MAJOR money the last time, they've been burned once and are shy now.

It's affecting the job market.

Liberals in Berkeley? The dickens you say! How long has this been going on? 😎

Happily, straightbottomjim, San Diego doesn't face such outage difficulties. Then again, most of California doesn't, at present, if our governor is to be believed. Besides that, it's trivial. Alas, my power's out for an hour or two. I'll waste away.

Seriously, a power outtage in this state isn't much of a problem anywhere but in the Sierras.

If I were recommending a spot by cost, I'd go with where you're plannin' to go, reflexology414 - San Diego. It's price for a good home is much more reasonable than other metropolitan areas. The outtages, if they ever come back around, are going to affect that area minimally. It's beautiful, and there's some fine restaurants down there. Not to mention the beaches...

There's a great variety of industry down there. Jobs are more plentiful than in the northern part of this state. Temperatures are high and beautiful. Traffic? Don't know. Was trivial years ago, but I've not been down in a while. I can ask the West Coast Gatherings list for the opinions of the SoCal members, for you.

If I weren't movin' north, and liked the hot sunlight, I'd head there. I'm not mean for such, though, and the love o' my life is in the north, hence, northward I'm bound. 😉 G'luck, sir!

Could I suggest a generator? I have a 5000 watt with a double pole/double throw switch wired into the house.I've already used it during a winter power outage. Many types and wide range of prices.

Why not Hawaii?

If it is a leftist paradise you seek, why not Hawaii? My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Maui, and I believe the island to be proof that God created the world. I personally believe it is where he spent his seventh day. Besides I don't think Hawaii even went for Reagan. No other state believes in social programs more than Hawaii. What incentive is there to work? My wife and I contemplated leaving our jobs just so we could flip burgers there. I would have been poor, but who cares? Its Hawaii!!!! If you can't be happy there, then you just ain't trying.
Oh, and if you think Wisconsin is unfreindly, try visting NJ sometime...LOL. Our shirts say "Welcome to NJ, now go home!!". Just a word of advice from this card-carrying Republican...Good Luck
