When can you add 2 to 11 and get 1 as the correct answer?

When you add 2 hours to 11 O'Clock to get 1 O'Clock.

I can't believe I had to scroll down for the answer! Must've been thinking too logically that time. 😀

I was of track too Alex. I came up with: in a "base-12" numbering system (as opposed to the base-10 system we use daily). :Grrr:

Ms.Tracy, you got me on this one too! You are good!😀 A little too good maybe we need to get you down and tickle you.:evilha: :dogpile: :tickle: :devil2: I think I could get several to help me since you love to be tied and tickled!😀

Alex, as a math major, you should have
1)remembered modular arithmetic,
2)noted that 13 (the answer in the ordinary integers) and 1 (the answer given) differ by 12, hence are congruent modulo 12, and then
3) realized that arithmetic modulo 12 in real life occurs on a clock.

I tried linking the numbers to the binary system, but of course that didn't work. 😛

Muehahaha! J/k, bro!

Actually, I think you're right, AW. Sometimes I think I'm talking to myself when I reply to you! :blaugh:

Yes, 13 mod 12 = 1 because when you divide 13 by 12 you get a remainder of 1. I need to work on my number theory! Thanks, mila. 😀
