Can You Swim? Do You Like Swimming?

I can't swim, but I can't sink either. So it works out one way or another. I do love swimming.

:console: It hurts my heart to hear that someone did that to you, I'm glad you're taking that part of you back :rose:

My awesome grandma, who was born in 1921, was thrown into a lake and nearly drowned by one of her brothers in 1929. She has never ever gone swimming again, not so much as a kiddie pool, in 70 yrs :sowrong:

Thanks! :twohugs: I can relate to your grandma. In my case, it's as much my stubborn streak as anything else that got me to go back in. I got myself a dive mask and forced myself to spend time underwater in a friend's pool. It took an entire summer before I could do it without flashing. But, I did it. One of these days I'll go back and actually learn to swim properly. In the meantime, it's still fun to just relax in & by the water. 🙂

I had a teacher in highschool who signed my yearbook as follows... "To a gal with real sticktoitiveness. Keep up the attitude and you'll be a success." I've never forgotten that. It's been a motto of sorts when I struggle with things...this included.

Had training during youth. At least I can tread and do average strokes... Love it.

Yes, I can swim.
Yes, I enjoy swimming. 😀

But I'm lazy, so I enjoy soaking in a jacuzzi even more. 😛

Being from New York City

I'm a New Yorker born and raised, many MANY of us don't learn to swim as children; it just doesn't happen, like many of us don't drive until our 20's and '30's :juggle:

I can relate to Bella about being from NYC..........I mean when I was a Kid, we lived in Flatbush Brooklyn, then my parents moved to Staten Island which is a suburb of NYC when i was 8, and we had a four foot deep pool...but you hear stories about people that survive on the ocean until help arrives? That's pretty frigging scary, I don't know how long I would last. I don't think I could swim to save my life, but I hope I could.

My mom took me to swimming lessons when I was 6 months old,
and I've been a fish ever since. The only thing that's changed is
my tolerance for cold temperatures. Growing up in Upper Michigan
right on the Great Lakes means swimming in 50* water or not at
all. But after living in South Carolina for 14 years, my water now
has to be at least 70* for me to stick a toe in. :fish:

I love to swim. I can do the normal forward stroke well enough, nothing special. But I swim fine. I'm very excited my building's pool is opening up this weekend.

I can swim and not drown but i can't tread water that well. Call it the awkwardness or just the lazy in me but i dislike using my legs when i swim. When i swim its all upperbody. So as long as Im constantly moving, im good

I absolutely love swimming. I'm a "River Rat" as they say having spent summers up at the Russian River in California and spent every day down on the beach along the river. Swimming, diving, floating along....it's wonderful!

Haven't swam since 8th grade, but until then, I spent every day of the summer from my earliest memories in the water.

I hate swimming, but I love to be at the beach. Splashing around in the water and bodysurfing are cool, but I like to be able to touch bottom, since I'm not very good at swimming either.

I grew up in the city but learned to swim early on in summer camps, I always took to the water, love to snorkel and even scuba dived a few times. I don't car for cold water anymore either Amanda so I can relate to that. I should get back in the water as a form of exercise!

I love swimming. I used to practically live in my girlfriend's pool when I was younger.

Did alot of swimming at the cummunity pool as a child plus had a pond close by, certified twice for lifesaving in high school but never was a life guard, that was way before Baywatch came out though, might have motivated me. Now I still swim in my sisters pond that is very close, and have been down to Folly Beach SC several times for a week stay.😉

I love to swim but only in pools , I am scared of the ocean *strong wuss I know *
