Can you turn your ticklishness off?

Speaking for myself, I am not the most ticklish person to begin with. However, if someone tries to tickle me and I'm not in the mood, I can shut the sensation down pretty easily. If I'm depressed, there's no way in hell anyone can tickle me since I'm numb at that point.

I can’t turn it off completely.

I can’t think of a single girl that I have tickled that was able to completely shut it off. Some would not laugh if they were not in the right mood but they would still squirm, make funny noises, and show other signs of ticklishness.

“Can you turn your ticklishness off?” Sure, just turn the tickler off. 😉<<<<----👍

I could, but I doubt I’d ever be the same. I don’t want to 🙂

I think I can for a short time, but if they persist and try different spots with some verbal taunting I soon cave. I have ticked others who can seem to shut it down at times. Very disappointing!

Not exactly, but it does shut itself off sometimes. If I'm overly concerned about something it can just vanish for a time. It is greatly reduced or just disappears if tickled by a guy. I think my body interprets it more as a threat or fight than a playful/mischievous taunting in that case. Interestingly, if a woman is a little more aggressive or persistent with it, it's difficult to resist even with strong intention.

This is interesting. I don’t have a ticklish reaction, but I find it hard to believe that someone who is legitimately ticklish wouldn’t be at least a bit ticklish when tickled by the same sex. Could be the type of tickling you’ve received, but in a relaxed environment, I think most ticklish men would still be ticklish if another man tickled them. It’s a complex feeling to be sure, but that’s also part of the beauty of tickling. It’s fairly non-discriminate.

For sure it's strange, but I suppose tickling is strange. It might seem indiscriminate in some ways, but most of what we interpret as tickling is regulated by the brain and psychological state, which is highly context dependent. And that's just it–For me, being tickled by a male is never a relaxed environment. I think for me, a lot of the disparity between male and female has to do with my interactions with them and perceptions of them. For example, in my martial arts background, I did a lot of grappling with both genders, but saw them very differently. I was always more careful with females than males. The males triggered much more of a primal fight state in my mind. When any kind of tickling is happening, if with a female, I do not get that triggered primal response. If male, as far as my brain is concerned, we are in combat–It barely tickles–it's time to fight. Some exceptions are surely likely with this. For example, I think I'd be more ticklish on my feet than elsewhere, but still overwhelmingly reduced from my baseline.

Lol, I stand no chance. Anywhere from my underarms to my waste and on my feet, gets an instant reaction.
Also because I know how ticklish I am, I can't even avoid flinching when I know it's coming no matter how much I try. 😬🤦🏻‍♂️

No I don't think so actually, especially considering I've never been immobilized beforehand. I've been lightly tied down before but being unable to put my arms down or move my legs at all would render any efforts to power through it useless.

Even without bondage, however, I find myself flinching even at work if someone makes a move toward my sides, when really they're just trying to reach for something close by. Thankfully no one has ever noticed, I'm not sure how I'm gonna react if someone in the community ever catches me out in the wild flinching 😅

Never been able to turn mine on so it's always been off haha but I do think most ticklish people can at least moderate to an extent how ticklish they react based on things like mood, who is tickling them and why, the setting or situation.

If its someone I'm not cool with touching me, I can forcefully block it out. Growing up my mom was a relentless tickler and by the time I was in high school I was afraid of being tickle by her. Like. Afraid. She didnt really know when to stop. She's not ticklish and doesnt know what it feels like and if my siblings or I cried we were being poor sports. So I learned to turn it off when she did it.

So its kind of fucked up why I have it. It always comes back to childhood trauma, huh? Maybe I need therapy.

Yes, and no.

I've become quite an expert with turning it completely off at work. It's like it doesn't exist. If I don't like "you", I will 100% not react, and look at you like you're an idiot before I retaliate in a way that you won't like.

However, there are some spots that I cannot "turn off" or block no matter what. And if I am asleep and tickled awake or tickled when I'm tired, I cannot block it at all. I'm vulnerable and my sensitivity is off the charts. Love being tickled awake. 💕

I DO love pretending that something doesn't tickle to get on my ler's nerves. Mainly because it's fun being punished. 😩😝

What you are describing is why I attempt to post the things I do on X(Twitter) and sometimes here. Regardless of whether your experience helped you develop a tickle fetish or not, the tickle actions that your mom did was not okay. Not trying to judge her in totality, just her actions as it pertains to your recount.

Anyways, thank you for your perspective.

I, personally, can't, not matter what my mood is. Which, if I'm honest, I really don't like.

Funny enough, this very thing came up in conversation with Willow, Rayne and Zoey. I was not in the conversation, only listening while I was working on packing my equipment up. Willow said she can't control it, but if tickled past her limit, she will actually go numb and stop responding. I think it's her body's and mind's way of protecting itself from the extreme sensation. The thing that got me curious was how she knew that about herself. My guess was a past experience, but I didn't ask. I do remember Zoey saying she was jealous of Willow because of that because she can't do that. Lol

The longer I was in the community, I found out that this happens to several people in that they, themselves, don't turn it off, but their brain does.

I can tone it down real low but I can’t completely turn it off. IE you’re truly trying to tickle me. I can tune out the accidental stuff though.
