I loved this show growing up. Created by Allen Funt, it began as Candid Microphone on the ABC Radio Network, airing June 1947-September 1948. In my opinion the Golden Age of the TV series was 1961-1966 with Funt as host. During those years he was joined by Arthur Godfrey, Gary Moore, Durwood Kirby and finally Bess Myerson in supporting roles.

It was an excellent show. One reason for this, that many people don't know, is that they filmed far more stunts than they put on the air, junking the ones that didn't turn out to be funny enough.

It amused me as a kid, but as I got older the sort of show that CC represented (Punked is in honesty it's direct spiritual child) started to grate upon me.

All too often the 'joke' was basically fucking with someones day. Sometimes it went as far as 'hiring' a prospective employee to play some odd joke on (Often hired from a temp agency in the day) In these cases I just see the show as an agent of annoyance. Who needs more petty little problems dumped in their day?

I guess it's the 'Falling down is funny when it happens to someone else' school of humor that just doesn't work for me.
