Quite a while ago, somebody posted a news article about a German who killed and ate another man. Today, the verdict was spoken: He'll spend 8½ years in prison for second-degree murder.

Mr Meiwes (the cannibal) had confessed in full, but video evidence proved that his victim had asked him to be killed and eaten by him. A psychiatrist attested that Mr Meiwes was fully accountable for his crime.

As the victim had specifically asked for the killing and eating, the judge didn't follow the prosecutor's demand for first-degree murder and a lifetime imprisonment. The state attorney announced that he'll appeal the verdict. Mr Meiwes accepted his verdict calmly.

Journalists who lanced a similar internet request as "test balloon" reported that no less than 234 individuals had responded; they wanted to be killed and eaten as well, it was their ultimate sexual kick.

What a sick world we are living in... :sowrong:

He killed and ate a person....lord......Sadly, the journalist's poll doesn't surprise me one bit. This world today.:sowrong:

Most disagreeable to my tastes (no pun intended), but who are we to condemn any of them, or the cannibal , for that matter? (That is, assuming that it is what the "victim" really wanted.) So long as he did it with the full consent of the "victim", I fail to see how he poses a threat to anyone around him, and as such, would need to be imprisoned.

Now comes the goofy postscript. (groan) PETA (people for the ethical treatment of animals) has sent the cannibal a gift basket filled with tofu, veggie burgers, and a vegetarian cook book in the hopes of converting him to vegetarianism. Whudda world...whudda world.

lmao. Figures. There's another group of people who make me laugh. No, not all vegetarians...only the ones who condemn people for eating meat. "It's wrong? Really? You know those plants you're eating are living things, too. They aren't even capable of defending themselves." You wanna eat without killing something? Have some dirt and rocks.

Yeah i read about this awhile back in some Newspaper. i still think he should have got a Life sentance in prison. But thats just me though. oh and um This World will never get better this world thinks about Sin and Sin alone so this world will always been sick and messed up.

just my two cents in

are you ready?

i heard he's going to work in the prison kitchen, due to his great recipies, lol.
am i sick or what? lmao

steve

LOL! Reminds me of the old joke: What is a bus full of tourists to a cannibal tribe?

Meals on Wheels! 😛

My favorite cannibal joke:

Here's what the cannibal said to the missionary priest before he cooked and ate him:

"If the great God that you speak of does not want me to eat people, then why did He make them taste so good?"

Did ya hear about the cannibal who passed his brother?

LOL

peace out,
daddy

i agree. he is one very sick individual who needs help by the sounds of it, but he is not amurderer. it soudns as if they have imprisoned him out of caution in case he does bcome a threat to society. he could be out in less than four years from what i gather.the police found 'cook books' he had made, when they emptied his house with recipes such as 'roasted loin of young boy' etc...so i guess h may have actually tried to cary out these fantasies. but the wy he did it, asking for consent does not coem close to ther thigns soem people do.

I highly doubt his job outlook would be too high after he gets out (and I want soylent green on dvd)

'ere, whaddya give to a cannibal whose late for dinner? The cold shoulder! Oh, life...

How Weird..

This morning I saw a published printout of the emails he'd exchanged with potential meals. At least three other guys showed up at various times, then backed out at the last minute. Then they ate pizza and drank beer with the guy.

Tron

I saw an interview with this guy on TV. He said, "A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver. With some fava beans and a nice chianti." Or maybe that was someone else... 😉

Not meant as a flame but I'm gonna say it ...

This is (in part) why Americans resent being lectured by Europeans about the death penalty, "draconian" sentences and the like. Man intentionally kills, cooks and eats other man - is convicted - and now must be sentenced for his crime. Should this man eating animal be executed? No - 8 and 1/2 years should about do it - send him in at say, thirty, and let him loose at 38 (assuming no time off for good behavior). Sorry, the electric chair is looking pretty good to me around about the time this boy finished describing his little feast. Hey, maybe he can be rehabilitated - maybe he can be made a vegetarian? More likely, this boy's gonna come out after eight years with a helluva jones for a nice meal!

There is a certain poetic justice to the Chair, since it'd cook his sick ass.

He would have got sentenced to life imprisonment (probably with unlimited secure detainment in a psychiatric ward) if he had killed an unwilling victim. But he killed somebody who had asked for it, and this should make a difference after all.

But I agree insofar as I think his present sentence is highly insufficient, especially as he can hope to get released after two thirds. He should be detained afterwards, as he is definitely a danger to the public. The prosecution has already announced to appeal for a harsher sentence in a higher court.

However easy the "electric solution" may seem to you, it's not justified. But we had a VERY long discussion thread about death penalty here already, no need to rehash it from the beginning. Just one thought to ponder:

He received sexual gratification by killing to eat another human, who in turn got a sexual kick from being the victim. We (well, at least many of us) get sexually thrilled by tickling. What sentence would you recommend for somebody who tickled his victim to death, if said victim specifically asked for it?

Simply put, I'm consistent - I'd recommend the death penalty for premeditated murder - the attempt to in some way personalize it by making tickling the cause of death in no way distinguishes the situation if there was the intentional murder of a human being. I recognize the right of others to disagree; I was merely pointing out that for those who favor leniency it can become a very slippery slope as in this case.

That (I/you/we?) have an aberrant sexual fetish, as does this individual, in no way makes us similar. Read the "Stories" section - page after page after page of TMF members fantasizing about tickling unwilling "victims" for no legally defensible reason. The very significant difference is that these are fantasies. Only were persons to act them out would it ever be valid for you to make a comparison to this individual who did elect to act out his ghoulish fantasies. That he had a willing victim is (to me at least) completely irrelevant; in fact, this most extreme of examples points out the fallacy of the proposition that any conduct between consenting adults should be legal. It is not my position that the electric chair should be the penalty because it is easy (those who oppose it have made sure that it is anything but easy); rather, it's my position that death is the just penalty for certain crimes.

I'll conclude by returning a thought to ponder. You note that had the victim been unwilling, he'd "have been sentenced to life imprisonment (probably with unlimited secure detainment in a psychiatric ward)" - would you agree that the "unlimited secure detainment in a psychiatric ward" might not be a bad idea anyway - even with a willing victim or would you favor a lesser sentence because of the consent and condone releasing the man-eatng cannibal back into society after a few years (as the German laws/courts have)?
