I live in the lovely Commonwealth of Pennsylvania...and I'm (hopefully) going to purchase my first vehicle this week...my ler/fiance and I have been attempting to figure out which insurance will give us the most coverage for our money...seeing as how I've never had to deal with this before, I'm asking my licensed, driving brothers and sisters of the theater to offer any guidance they can on the subject...

Who do you get your insurance through?

Are you happy with them and the coverage they offer?

Who is giving the best deal?

Any advice on the subject?

Thank you all for any light you can shed on the subject...

Well, I believe we have Geico for our insurance. I'm not sure what they had for coverage, but so far there hasn't been any problems. But the trick about getting the best deal Camel is do you know what you want for your coverage? That way, you can tailor your insurance to what you need. If anything, you can probably google AIS or Progressive and try to get some comparisons there. At least, that's what I heard in their commercials. But remember to get the insurance that fits you.

I get my insurance through Farmers. Now, usually, Farmers is ranked as the second highest auto-insurance company out there. However, my uncle is an agent who has his own office and he insures both my mother and I, and so ensures we get a reasonable arrangement.

As for which company you should go with, alot of them claim to have the best rates, so the only way to know for sure is to take the time to get a quote from them, obviously.

The sure advice I can give you is to choose a plan that is right for your needs. You can purchase partial coverage and may not need all the bells and whistles. If money is tight partial coverage insures you in an accident, for example, and pays off the other guy. However, any damage done to YOU may not be covered.

Full coverage is obviously worth it, since everyone is covered and gets compensated. Some companies may try and pull one over on you and get you insured for extras that you may never need in your entire life, so be wary of those.

Basic coverage should be enough if your day to day driving routine and traveling are not particularly hazardous. If you live in an area where accidents are prone to happen or known to happen, or you do alot of freeway driving, or weather conditions in your area are never reliable then I'd definitely consider full coverage.

I recommend full coverage for a new or nearly new vehicle, and I also recommend paying the extra few dollars a year to cover rental-car costs if your vehicle has to undergo lengthy repairs.

My fiance and I have been checking around...and it just sucks because to get a quote, they need to run a credit check...and I have very low credit already just from a lack of having any method of obtaining it...so I'm worried all of these credit checks are just screwing me over...

GRR!!!

So far, Progressive is looking the best...full coverage is delicious...

Today I will be looking into AAA and a few others...

Thank you for the help! You folks are wonderful!!! 😀 😀 😀

Anyone else have something to add?? Any assistance/advice will be greatly appreciated!!!

I have Allstate myself. To me, all car insurance is a scam. You almost never get back what you pay in, and, to be honest, you really don't want to. However, I must say that when I hit a deer last year and my vehicle was in the shop for almost 2 weeks, Allstate was very good about the coverage, and my rates have not gone up since that incident. They also payed for my rental car the whole time, and that was a life saver, since I live 15 miles from my job. Again, this is dependent on what coverage you buy. Allstate also has convenient online bil paying if you like, and they allow for it to be payed on a monthly basis.

Allstate here.

No complaints, and they handled things well after my January 2005 accident.

I have used Allstate and Liberty Mutual. When I switched from Allstate to Liberty M, they gave me a good price (we changed after a move and price shopped). The next year (no claims from us), prices went up to way more than what we had with All-State. Been happy with the Good Hands People ever since, esp. when we had to make some claims, and we didn't get the 'hit with the 2x4' price gouge either, it stayed the same.

AAA is a good option as well. Worth looking into as well.

Camel, try applying for a secured credit card -- it will greatly enhance your credit rating after the security period expires.
