Out very very very soon... anyone going to see it? I'm a pretty big James Bond fan and can't wait dammit.

This is supposed to be the best James Bond book of the whole bunch. I think it was the first.

Don't know how close the movie will follow it though.

Hmm, well I guess the storyline will follow the book quite loosely but the main similarity between the book and the film is supposed to be the actual character of Bond himself - gritter, tougher, more ridiculously amazing, etc. Then again they seem to have said something like that everytime a new actor took over the role, and whilst they've all played very different Bonds, none of them have really been all that close to the book's version - not a bad thing really, the books aren't all that great. Ian Flemming does kick ass mind. Either way the film better be pigeontastic!

I'm a little skeptical of the new Bond (was always a Sean Connery & Rodger Moore fan myself) but being a Bond fan too I'll probably end up seeing it.

I'm most definitely interested. The whole back to basics approach is a good thing after the invisible car in Die Another Day. Plus this interpretation of Bond seems pretty close to how the books portrayed him, darker, more brutal, fucked up over the fact that his job requires him to kill people, etc.

I'm going to see it tomorrow afternoon. Absolutely massive Bond fan. favourites have to be Dr. No, Goldeneye, Living Daylights, License to Kill and Goldfinger. all because the Bond's in those films had a serious edge but were vulnerable. apparently thats what daniel craigs bond is all about. but the thing that first got me interested was this quote from the film i read.
Bartender: "Shaken or stirred sir?"
Bond: "Do i look like i care?"

Awesome. will give feedback on the film tomorrow evening (without giving much away of course)

And aww, I have to wait till Saturday 🙁

And hmm, I'm a little concerned it'll end up losing some of that bond magic if they change the formula too much - hey, I liked the cheesy puns and crazy gadgets! I'm in love with that quote already mind, and have high expectations.

The reviews its gotten have been really good as well so i have high expectations too. hopefully they'll be met.

Seeing it tommorow, 8.PM. It can't be worse than the shoddy Pierce Brosnan efforts (Goldeneye excluded) so I'm looking forard to it.

Just seen it! Don't really have any comments but am just so pleased to say it was one of the most ridiculously cool films I've ever seen. I was expecting it to be a good film but to (possibly) not really feel like a Bond film - technically well put together, action packed, blah blah, but maybe missing something of that wonderful quirkiness and energy all the other films have had. But even though it shakes off a few of the most obvious things you'd associate with Bond - long gone are cheesy puns, Moneypenny, crazy gadgets, impossible plans of world domination, etc - it still feels like a Bond film. In fact it feels more like a Bond film than any other Bond film, and if anything the loss of those elements has been a good thing - instead of scattering a few perfunctory Bond-style quips, characters and set pieces throughout the film as if out of a peppershaker, it has to make the whole style of the film scream James Bond instead, e.g. it loses some of the cheesy one-liners and puns, but Bond is still as witty as hell and the film provides for some very Bondish comic relief. And while there's no crazy gadgets to be made use of in totally unexpected and clever situations, Bond still ends up using every ounce of his ingenuity to perform some incredible feats. Anyway, despite the major differences from some of his predecessors, the amaaaaaaaaaaazing Daniel Craig comes off feeling more like Bond than anyone before. Film of the year dammit! Seriously.

I agree with David S. I am almost able to admit that this is my favourite Bond film of all. It's just fantastic. Instead of doing what I thought they'd do (a load of action set pieces with a loose story around them) it literally re-invigorates Bond from the campy films to the gritty books. Craig is brilliant and there really is little to hate about this film (although there were a few horrifically corny lovey lines said between Bond and the love interest, but I forgive them! SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

The movie was fun to watch. I've never really followed the bond series of movies that much. I've only seen the hand ful here and there. The action scenes are fun and over the top. And the villians aren;t the typical monologuing, overbearing, humorless dicks. that guy who played bond was a good choice, the women were all hot as usual. Overall a good film.

BTW does anyone else have a sudden urge to buy a sony cell phone, Vaoi laptop and drive a ford?

To say its the best bond film ever is an insult to roger moore and sean connery

I cannot wait till the holiday 007 marathons

What about the sony digital camera? 😛

I thought it was a great film, and I was very happy to see the lack of over the top gadgetry. The film just seemed more... realistic than the previous ones, which I enjoy in a spy book/film. And he still had the wit of Bond, it was just manifested differently. I still find this to be the greatest quip I've heard yet.

"I just want you to know, even if all that was left of you was your smile and your little finger, you'd still be more of a man than any of them"

...

"Thats only because you know what I can do with my little finger"

Heh, I quite liked that but wouldn't exactly call it my favourite quip... it's a little obvious, don't you think? That said most Bond jokes are. The torture scene actually had quite a few amusing moments.

As a devout member of the Eternal Church of James Bondage...

...I'll of course be going to see it. But I must admit I have a sense of dread about this one that I've never had before with a Bond film. A brand-new Bond, playing the story that is the beginning of the Bond saga? And from what I can see just from the previews on television, they're already taking tremendous creative liberties with the Casino Royale storyline. I'm sure it'll be jam-packed with crash-bang-boom, gadgets, and sexiness, but if they vary too much from the original story, it will sour the experience for me. And I'm already stinging from them not wrangling Brosnan for another film. And I'm incredulous that Brosnan didn't *WANT* to play Bond again. Who the hell doesn't wanna be James Freakin' Bond, I ask you?!?!? So we'll see. It came out yesterday, so I'll be seeing it sometime this week, I'm sure. Gotta admit, I've got some trepidation about this one.

I was thinking the same sort of thoughts before I saw it, but I was so pleasantly surprised it's unbelievable. Craig suits the role perfectly and despite the differences from the earlier films everything about the picture is very James Bond. And hmm, personally I wasn't hugely concerned over how far the film would follow the plot of the novel, but in any case it doesn't really veer too far off the original storyline and when it does it's usually for the better.

Seems like Bond films are hit or miss as far as how good or bad they are. I really dunno if this one will be any good...i think i'll wait and rent it when it comes out on DVD.

Oh and for the record...James Bond isn't blonde haired and blue eyed. No offense to those people (lol i'm blonde/blue eyed myself) but James Bond is a dark haired and dark eyed type....that's how it always has been and I think they've ruined it.

Its not really a disrespect to Roger Moore and Sean Connery to say this is the best bond film ever. Roger Moore's Bond was incredibly corny and never understood the fact that if you get your ass handed to you, you dont just brush it off as a bad day at the office. Sean Connery's Bond was awesome (even though he hated playing him). but Casino Royale like i said before. up there with Goldeneye, Dr. No. Goldfinger as the best in the entire series.

Though I'm a huge Bond fan, I've thought for some time now that this series, much like Star Trek, should be mothballed for a looooooooooong time.

Why I'll See The Movie

http://www.reelviews.net/movies/c/casino_royale2006.html

This is the ONLY reviewer I pay any attention, he's never let me down (we disagreed on The Sixth Sense but that's it in the 5 yrs I've followed him). I saw The Departed thanks to him and that movie is incredible :bubble: I'm a die-hard There Is Only Connery gal but I'll see this.

Bah. Movie Reviewers. Feh! Now *THERE'S* some friggin' money I'd like to get in on!

How cool would that be? Getting paid to tell others what you thought of a movie? Sign me the hell UP! I do my own reviews.

And I can report that I'm actually glad to have gone and seen this. I had some concerns about them making major changes to the storyline, but they're so smoothly handled, you hardly notice. Three and a half out of five stars on the Danimal graph.

Bah? Eh, Go humbug yourself >;-P

Ok, minor Bellarant. How come I never hear about folks picking on the Consumer Reports guys who test drive cars and appliances and then tell you what they learned, but movie reviewers and their readers get mocked? I like my money; I despise having wasted any of it plus hours of my time on a movie that sucked, and if someone who's opinion I trust based on previous dealings tells me a flick is a renter and not a full-price-worth-taking-out-a-second-mortgage-for-popcorn-and-the-babysitter I am very grateful :ranty: I listen and read before I spend hard earned cash, whether it's a Volvo or a Jack Black film fiesta.

/Bellarant 😉

Nostalgia

God, reading the posts in this link just reminds me of how much I miss Sean Connery as Bond. If anyone was the true Bond, that would be him. End of discussion. :xpulcy:

Jane, you ignorant slut. 😀

Of *COURSE* you never hear that about the people evaluating tangible, quantifiable OBJECTS like cars, appliances, etc... that's merely based on fact, and if the evaluator has any integrity, personal bias never enters the equation. Someone telling you how good a book, play, movie, television program, etc, on the other hand, is giving you their OPINION on them. And everybody's entitled to their own opinion. And mine. :blaugh: There's no way in hell to quantify how good a movie is. You can throw all the big name stars you want into a film, but if it stinks on ice, it still stinks. No way around it. Pick your favorite indy cult classic movie, then ask yourself what kind of reviews it got in the mainstream. How many of us love or hate the Rocky Horror Picture Show? You're not gonna know if you like the movie until ya take it out for a test drive and blend a few margaritas in it. Howzat grab yer apples? :woot:

Fuck me running on a gravel driveway, did I just come off sounding like Drew there? :evilha:
