cd-dvd backup

I have a collection of vidclips, and am putting them on personal cds instead of saving them on the computer. The dvd player I have will not play them, even though the menu sometimes shows on display. Is this a repairable issue, or do the cds have to be played on the computer only? Thank you.

Some players will play them but then the clips have to be avi format using the divx codec

Might have some luck with equipment available that loads pc to tv/dvd player, thanks.
