Chat problems...and I have Java

Maybe I'm just really new and naive at this, but I've tried going into the chat area and it's not working. I've tried this in both Firefox and IE, and both give me the same results.

Here's what I see:

There's a grey box telling me the rules of the chat room. Below that it says I'm in the forum, gives options like Last Post, replies, etc., gives a list of names in teh chat, and says there are no topics. Is there something else I'm supposed to click on? Am I blind, or just computer illiterate?

You may have Java but you don't have working Java.

This room is picky and if there is any corruption or out-datedness to your plug in it will not run.

Pop over to Sun.com and grab the newest plug-in that matches your system. That should clear it up.

OK, I got the newest version, but it's still doing the same thing in Firefox and in IE. They'll be a little box at the top of the page that looks like it's loading, and it'll turn into a grey button that says connect, but it's unable to be clicked on. I can even see a list of members on the chat, but can't do anything else. In IE a message pops up saying there's an error with the web page preventing it from displaying correctly.

Any ideas, or do I need to ask my techie boyfriend?
