Chat Room Plans

As you no doubt know, a LOT of people are really upset with the AV chat room, particularly the lack of PC capability. The "whispering" is a royal pain and the non-password protected rooms are just unworkable.

I know the problems with the old room with the hacking and virus problems, so I'm pretty sure we can't simply go back to it.

But we'd all like to hear your ideas on a plan to get a good chat room with PC capabilities.

You're a good guy, Myriads, and we appreciate all you do. Now we'd really like to know where we all go from here.

Currently we are waiting to see what the hell is up with Digi-Chat. Their product costs us the price of a very good used car every year, and we are trying to find out why we are seeing no service.

Once we see what the deal is there we can move on to finding new chat solutions. But this is not going to be a uber fast process. Even the A/V room cost us cash for a one time use buy. And sadly there is a real lack of secure chat solutions out there.

If anyone has any ideas of chat solutions we could investigate, let us know. I'm trying to find alternatives, but there's not much to be found, unfortunately. If anyone has ideas, please share them. Any lead is a good lead.

IRC?

We'd have comparatively little control over an IRC setup. Thinking on it, I'm not certain it's even possible to link the TMF member database to an IRC room. The big advantage of the DigiChat room is that it forced users to adopt their TMF username. Older chatrooms in place at the TMF let users choose a screenname for themselves, so we often had folks impersonating other users. Whatever is chosen MUST be tied in to the TMF database so folks can be guaranteed to be who they say they are.
