I agree I think it would be great and really neat to have a chat/messenger feature on here-not saying just it be geared only for friends -but also a great chance to additionally make friends and get to chat, possibly maybe able to have a voice feature be great too if it could be done-that way it can help make a screen name more real and outside the chat box. Not a bad idea, I would like to see this. I mean chat room is great-sure it is-but sure be great also have a chat messenger feature-one on one too also-for those not really into the big chat room scene-like more one on one chatting-not really on the scene of chatting w several or more people at once. That would be neat. Also have webcam feature for those w webcams-optional don't have to but if one wants to-chat and be on webcam they could and for that that just want to chat/maybe get on voice-that or just chat -pm chat on a chat messenger system on here. Whatever the person feels comfortable with.

What's wrong with the good ol' PM system?

Adding an instant chat like Facebook seems to me like it would more trouble than its worth. There was a video chatroom at one point, but I think it turned out to be too expensive to run. Facebook has programmers and billions of dollars at their fingertips.

when you already have programs like AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Skype, Google+ ETC that you can use already. There are many chat programs out there.

Maybe in the future it would be cool, but for now I think it might be too much of a hassle.

Granted it might be a little much of a hassle and maybe too costly to try to run a chat program like that. Just a idea-I thought it was really a neat idea. Since pms are great don't get me wrong-just thought it would be neat to have a chat messenger system as well. Just thought it would be neat also. Yet if it would be too difficult and too costly then leave it with pms and chat feature doesn't have to be added.

PM's do the trick just fine. would you really want 20 different people im'ing you all at once? cuz thats what you'll get if you do a fb like chat system

I guess that is true. It would be hectic-if it would be just like facebook feature. I am more for chat messenger if there would be one-not automatically showing people online-but thought also it might be a chance to have bit more one on one chat interaction-possibly maybe voice feature for many that wish to chat w their friends not just online /through pms, chat room but also one on one through chat system. But I see what you are saying maybe not. Guess keep it to chat room and pms.

A chat system like facebooks is built into the software. The forum code does not support such a thing, and even if it did, it would be in the form of a 3rd party program, which installing, would void our forum license, making any issues very costly and difficult to repair.

The A/V chat room failed for 2 reasons. #1) they decided to charge for the A/V functions, and not a little. but more significantly #2) The rooms security was crap. The ads which were added via a 3rd party were virus vectors and several did damage to users systems. There was no way to split the room from the ads so we tanked the whole thing.

The TMF's current chatroom currently costs us the price of a very good used car every year to offer to you. I regret that it does not seem to meet your needs.
