Chechnyan terrorists hold 500-700 hostages

I’m sure you’ve already heard about it: Around 20 Chechnyan terrorists have taken 500-700 hostages in a Moscow theater. They have hotwired the whole building with explosives, they denied the offer of food and water, and they separated family members from each other. One hostage has already been shot, another one was badly wounded by a bazooka shot during an escape attempt. The terrorists have demanded the final withdrawal of Russian troops from Chechnya and the end of the war (which has already caused almost complete destruction of the country, between 7 and 15 thousand Russian casualties, and countless casualties among Chechnyan civilians). The whole situation is practically hopeless, and most people expect a blood bath during this night.

I am repeating myself: May all terrorists rot in hell!!!

A chilling excerpt from it:

I swear by God we are more keen on dying than you are keen on living," a black-clad male hostage-taker said in the broadcast. "Each one of us is willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of God and the independence of Chechnya."

"Even if we are killed, thousands of brothers and sisters will come after us, ready to sacrifice themselves," declared a female hostage-taker, covered in a black robe except for her eyes.

No, I haven't yet heard about this. I guess I don't watch the news as much as I should.

I just want to know... where do these people get off thinking that they have the right to control human life?

These people are sick, I don't care what reasoning they may feel they have. It is completely terrible.

I don't know what we need to do to stomp this out of the world, but something must be done!

hell are these fools thinking? The Russians DON'T negotiate....never have, never will. At this moment they're positioning their special forces to wipe these people out, and they'll be thorough about it. Half the hostages will die, and to that government they will be deemed heroes and acceptable losses. THEN they're going to retaliate in Chechnya itself...make no mistake about it! Bad tactics and being used on the wrong sort of government. 😕 Q

The problem here is simply that both sides are willing to die for what they believe. The fact that they are both willing to watch people on the "other side" die wihtout blinking, well that tells all doens't it?

I don't see anything but smoke and alot of blood in the future of this engagement.

This isn't the first terrorist outrage the Chechens have perpetrated. Here's my prediction: The theater will become a smoking hole full of dead Russians. The Russians have NEVER been pacifists. They'll demand that their army kill every living thing in Chechnya, poison the wells and sow the ground with salt. And the Russian Army will try to do just that.

MOSCOW (AP) - Special forces troops stormed a Moscow theater before sunrise Saturday, freeing hundreds of hostages held by Chechen rebels and killing their leader in a bloody end to the three-day standoff.

Dozens of bodies were seen being removed from the theater. Survivors were loaded onto buses, many in shock or unconscious.


Deputy Interior Minister Vladimir Vasilyev said that about three dozen of the estimated 50 hostage-takers had been killed, but that some apparently had managed to escape. It was unclear how many of the more than 600 hostages were killed.

A bloody end indeed. 🙁

As reported in my Sunday newspaper, the Russians flooded the building with an incapacitating gas and then sent the Spetsnaz in. The Spetsnaz types who raided the building capped the unconscious Chechens through the temple at close range - just to make sure they stayed down. The count stands at 50 dead Chechen terrs and 90 dead Russians.

WW-3 was the Cold War. Look at a current map of Russia. Compare with a map showing the cease-fire line for the Treaty of Brest Litovsk that ended WW-1 on the Eastern Front. The Russians arguably suffered a worse defeat at our hands in 1991 than they did from the Germans in 1917.

No, we're fighting WW-4 now. It's a war of civilizations between the West and Militant Islam. It's been going on since the 6-Day War in 1967. But until 9/11, we just weren't paying attention.
