Chestnut wins 5th consecutive title

I'm happy to report that Joey "Jaws" Chestnut won his 5th consecutive hot dog eating championship title at Nathan's Famous in Coney Island today.

Joey ate 62 hot dogs with buns in 10 minutes. The runner-up ate a mere 53 hot dogs.

Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas won the (newly created) women's title by eating 40 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Two women tied for second place with 29 hot dogs each.

Both of the winners received a $10,000 prize.


PS: This is in GD to avoid starting an argument about whether competitive eating is a sport. It is certainly at least a contest. This is the third year that I've attended as a spectator. 😀

You need to enter this contest next year. Start training right away. 😛

I'll admit, the appeal of things like this escapes me. To each his own. I'll withhold my opinion as to whether this is a sport or not so the thread does not get off track.
