Absolutely, Orange.
I worked front line during the SARS crisis here in Toronto, and it was a very scary time because of the unknown. At the same time, the sensationalism our city received in the media as a result was rediculous and caused more harm than the disease itself.
Don't get me wrong, it was a very, very serious illness.... I risked my life to battle it, alongside the many brave souls who worked tirelessly to minimize the risk. But the disease was contained to those in hospital for the most part (mine was hit the hardest).
The stigma of that time still haunts me and I witnessed people die in the process. I was outcast by my own family for working in such an environment.
The hardest time in my life, but I knew what I had to do.
These are scary times, and headlines such as these don't make it any easier. But having gone through the process and the fear, I can understand the fear these headline's cause in many.
