One of the comments in this thread, http://www.ticklingforum.com/showthread.php?t=81573 , got me to thinking about when it is or isn't ok to tickle co-workers. What do most of you all think about this subject? Do you refrain 100% or do you indulge to some degree? Personally, I've tickled a good few co-workers over the years, but it was only under certain cirumstances. I'd never tickle a mere acquaintance. I've only tickled women whom I'd actually consider to be friends, women who it would be no biggie to go to lunch with or chat about personal stuff with and think nothing of it.

One lady at work nearly expects me to tickle her on her ribs whenever I see her. When I don't, she makes a comment about how her day won't be that exciting as a result. There are a couple more who like the extra attention of getting tickled, but I definitely don't do it too often because I think it would be a problem to do so. Another female co-worker actually had a strange tickling relationship with me. Before she moved out of state, she'd come over to my place where I'd tie her up and tickle her. She always acted like she didn't like it, but she was over to my place like clock work on a regular basis. That, of course, was a very, very unique situation and I'd never expect for anything like that to happen again lol. There are plenty of women at work I'd love to get my hands on, but fortunately I can deal with the fact that it's just not gonna happen :jester:

What about you guys?

What about you guys?

I tried that at work with a co-worker her name was Lynn and because of it i ended up losing our friendship in May of 2006 to this day we havent spoken a word to each other 🙁

It can be done, but you need to exercise good judgement. dont rush into it and go by gut instinct.

If I was a guy, I wouldn't risk it seeing as how easily the words "sexual harassment" are thrown out there.

But people are going to continue to do it.

I don't see anything wrong with briefly tickling a co-worker you're really on friendly terms with as long as you know she doesn't hate to be tickled.

I suppose its all down to the level you and your co-worker are at.
I used to work in a call centre with a girl who I got on great with. We'd hug when we saw each other, stick together if our breaks were at the same times etc.
At weekends it was casual dress, and in the summer that meant that a lot of the girls wearing flip-flop type shoes. The only real enjoyment we had was trying to put each other off when on the phone to customers. She'd throw things and pull faces.
I'd tickle.

Damn...I miss that job.

Definitely as a guy I wouldn't risk it unless you were positive the woman wouldn't be offended by it. Working for an employment law attorney I've seen some people get fired or whatnot over the stupidist things but management has to follow any complaints, etc. Sexual harassment is prevalent in today's workplace and even it was an innocent thing as a small poke or whatever some people may get offended. I've had a guy at work grab my sides but who am I (a known ticklephile) to get offended, lol.

Definitely. I'm amazed at the risks guys will take (usually the risks are much more sexual in nature than tickling, but still.....). At my place of employment, all employees must go through an annual sexual harassment seminar. The bottom line, they say, is that a lawsuit for wrongful termination is far cheaper to pay for than being sued for failing to protect a victim claiming sexual harassment.

Absolutely, my firm does the same. I'm always amazed at some of the things though that managers, coworkers do when I read these lawsuits. I mean it is blatant sexual harassment and managers of all people should know better. It's scary really what some people have endured at their place of employment.

Funny, now that you mention it, the most blatant violator was our CEO. He knew it was wrong, yet he'd go around and give shoulder rubs to the secretaries. One secretary I dated for a bit said that she felt so uncomfortable around him because he'd always try to take her to lunch, try to rub her shoulders and would make inappropriate remarks. Of course, the low level people could be just as bad, but to have the HEAD guy pull that!? Wow.

depends on the work place & if your close with the person. like my coworker ian who is 2 years older than myself..we're very close. like brother/sister close... we have been working together for 2 years. we work in a restaurant and we are behind the bar but the restaurant is family owned/run and the staff is treated like family and they are like my big brothers and sisters. and ian does tickle me on ocassion. like one time he went to give me a high five but hes 6'3 and had his hand all the way up so i lifted my arm up and he tickled under my arm making me squeal and jump back and hes giving me a few side tickles here and there but i dont mind hahaha.

Same thing happened to me to this year. She did get layed off so I don't see her anymore. Probably a good thing she is gone.

Upon seeing this thread title, my first impression was NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

thats why im glad i work at the place i do cause everyone is like family and we hang out and party and stuff outside work so theres some tickles here and there cause im like the "little sister" of the group.

it jujst depends on the right womn--with "May" i hit the RIGHT gal!

about twenty years ago i worked in a huge office with lots of ladies. There was this VERY attractive one named "May" who was always flirtatious and full of fun and laughter. Married but without kids, she had gorgeous feet and always present red polish. One afternoon after a friday "beer luncheon" i noticed she had kicked off her heels and was walking around everywhere in her stocking feet. After having had a few beers myself i did not hestitate to call her and asked "how ticklish are your feet? If you laugh and scream alot i'll come down and tickle them but i want to know before i try--i want to make sure there will be plenty of action!" Much to my surprise she told me VERY and that after she finished a job shed come to MY office and show me. After a half hour she showed up sans her heels, laid back in my easy chair with her feet up on a coffee table. I tickled her as she went nuts--we moved to a couch and she laughed and laughed. Since i was on a second floor. nobody was around and we had a blast. After that we did that almost every week--she called it her "stress release and cheer up time" and we did for about an hour each time. After i left the job but frequently visited the area we graduated to the hotel i was staying at and after some mild coaxing i used tiedowns and feathers and brushes and she would change into a one piece bathing suit alowing me to get her sides and undearms (her most ticklish place) as well as those VERY ticklish feet. One time as she was coming over i just thought to myself it just doesnt get any better than this! A beautiful woman driving jher expensive car and coming to my motel room to be tickled! And as she came in to change she told me I have a dentist appointment this afternoon so we'll only have an hour and a half till shed have to get ready to go! Twenty years ago mind you--and i fear that the curent environment would probably be a bit more constraining for the both of us. We still stay in touch though miles and miles away but even in holiday cards she will cryptically write "nobody made me laugh ever as much as you did!"

You will never win when a female colleague's a pain in the ass

Manic Tickler, you said a lot with your words, "you need to exercise good judgement. dont rush into it and go by gut instinct." A guy should get to know the female co-worker he'd like to tickle. Her body language usually will tell you if her tickle traffic light is green or red.

I disagree with those who say never try because of sexual harassment charges. Of course, sexual harassment is real and must be hell for the women whose male coworkers put them through what is really a form of assault. Sexual harassment is an act of anger. A man doesn't sexually harasses a woman because he has a crush on her.

But the kind of person who would get mad if you tickle her is the same kind who thinks you're up to something because you smiled, or said hello, or simply stepped within fifty yards of her. You will never win with that type, so don't blame yourself if you make the mistake of tickling such a woman only to see her dash off to complain about you. That type is so in love with herself she thinks everyone else is in love with her, too.

OK, this question seems to come up a lot, so I guess it's time to have a little introduction to the legal standard so that you know what you're getting into. This is the federal standard...there are also a myriad of state laws. Sexual harassment falls into two general categories: 1) quid pro quo ("sleep with me or you won't get promoted"); and 2) hostile work environment. In this scenario, we are primarily talking about the second category. A hostile work environment can arise from any unwelcome conduct and is not limited to sexual advances. As a matter of fact "sexual harassment" is merely a sub-category of gender discrimination (although the "harasser" and victim can both be either male or female). The standard for what constitutes workplace harassment is based on a reasonable person. While I am not aware of cases involving tickling specifically, it is clear that any type of unwanted touching in the workplace could theoretically be actionable. Given that the law imposes duties and liabilities on the employer to take action if made aware of any alleged harassment, your employer can, and is probably obligated, to take disciplinary action, including termination, in the event of anyone in management observes or is made aware of workplace harassment that is documented (through statements or investigation). There is even a potential claim for someone who observes the behavior and wasn't the victim. Sorry for the legal mumbo-jumbo, but this question seems to come up all the time in an apparent effort to justify or even seek permission to tickle someone at work. Consensual relationships between co-workers have their own set of issues. But in this legal environment, you tickle at your own risk at work and termination and/or legal action are certainly among the likely consequences. I have just as many fantasies as the next guy, but just use common sense.

after expreiencing what I had gone through before with Lynn i'll be very careful about tickling a female co-worker

Playing A Dangerous Game

What booberrytickle said is quite correct, especially in large corporations.
ANYTHING can be viewed as harrassment.
Even if you are dating a co-worker, you CAN NOT show ANY kind of affection in the work place.
ANYONEe who sees you touching, kissing, fondling a co-worker has the right to contact Human Resources and complain. They don't even have to work there. They could be a visitor.
I make it a point NEVER to touch anyone in the workplace for fear of disciplinary action or worse . . . termination.
It's unfortunate that a poke in the ribs as you pass by a cow-worker can get you fired.
You are playing a VERY dangerous game when you indulge yourself at work.
Even if the ticklee likes it, someone else right next to you might NOT & cause you alot of grief.
Then this 'incident' is on your permament record.
When you interview for another job this little 'indiscretion' might come up.
You may feel that I am exaggerating, but think about it. Is it really THAT far fetched?

Bart makes a good point. Even if the person you tickle doesn't mind there's always someone who will.
I was dating a female co-worker once and she certainly didn't mind a playful poke in the ribs every now and then. However she told me that another female, who didn't know we were dating, came up to her and asked her if she would like to put in a complaint.
Now I hardly new this other woman, and had never had an disagreement with her or anything like that, so she was clearly just being a bitch.
The girl I was dating set her straight of course, and nothing ever happened. But it shows how you do have to be carefull!!! :ermm:

I've been tickled by co-workers in Corporate America since 1980. As the lee, I don't really have to worry about sexual harrassment suits for the most part. The only exception was during a period in which I managed our Service Delivery Technical Support group. One of my engineers, Robin, would often come into my cube, massage my shoulders and then start tickling me. She was pretty discreet about it, but it made me a little nervous.

Well i guess ill put mine lil tidbit in. I work at a resturant(TGIFridays) and I tickle our female servers on a dialy basis. I mean every shift i atleast poke somone once or twice. We have a couple of servers there that are so ticklish, I just walk behind them and put my hands on thier sides and they nearly start shreaking....its so much fun. I actually had a few very nice tickles today. Gather around children for story time(sits in big wooden rocking chair and opens tickle story book.). Well the first one was this one girl named HD(our managers think she looks like Hillary Duff, so spawned her nickname) and I always tickle her to try to get her to scream(shes a self proclaimed screamer when tickled so i try to get it out of her) and she was doing her lil squirming and blocking thing, but still not trying to get away, so after a few secs. she boasted that I couldnt get her to scream cuz I wasnt tickling her right spot(note: I was using one hand and holding my apren with my money and everything in the other). So I said or really and stop to put my apren on a table 4 steps away, but the shocking thing was she stayed right there with her huge cute grin on her face and waited for me to come back to try again, to which i did but still didnt get my scream even tho I did get her going pretty good when I pinned her against the wall. The 2nd was one of favs, her name is Lauren and the thing I like like about her is the size work shirt that was given to her was the right body size, just not the right length so just her normally walking gets you that view of that lil 1/2 in void between the bottom of her shirt and the top of her pants( oh and did I mention she likes to stretch alot, arch her back, and reach for the occational to high to grab item). Anyway she was standing at a micro(computers we put food orders into) and I walked up behind her to say I was heading out. I put my chin on her sholder and wrapped my hands around her waist, letting my pinkies lightly graze that 1/2 an inch voided area i mentioned earlier and we talked for a few secs. So when I was ready to walk away I gave her side a few quick kneads and began to back up when she said "You always do it so hard" "I dont like it hard". To which I bursted out laughing(thinking very sexual and naughty thoughts). Then she was like " I like it soft" and looked over her sholder at me kinda out of the corners of her eyes. To that I did somthing Ive been trying to keep from doing,(due to the risk of getting in trouble or fired) I slid my hands up her shirt and lightly dragged my fingers(spider tickling) over her stomach, right around her belly button and she doubled over and started giggling. I said "was that better?" and she looked at me still giggling alil and said "no", but I do think she liked it. So thats my 2 cents on tickling at work, hope you guys have asmuch fun as me. :bouncybou
