Here are the final results for the attendance at Major League Baseball home games for the regular season in 2018:

First place, Dodgers, with 3,857,500.

Second place, Yankees, with 3,482,855.

Third place, Cardinals, with 3,403,587

...

30th (last) place, Marlins, with 811,104

In that the Marlins wound up with a record of 63 wins and 98 losses, they can't really complain that fans didn't show up.


Biggest grievance against their fans:

The Oakland Athletics wound up with a record of 97 wins and 65 losses, winning a Wild Card and thus being in post-season.
But they attracted only 1,573,616 fans, ranking 27th out of 30 teams.

What is wrong with the people in Oakland? Why won't you support a winning team?

Marlins Park holds a little under 37,000. The game average is 10,013, that is only one-third capacity.

Maybe they compete with the weather, after all, it is summer in Florida. But I speculate that Derek Jeter lost much of the fanbase when he traded basically the face of the franchise, Giancarlo Stanton, to the Yankees.

As far as the A's go, I'm not sure why they don't support the team. Maybe their pissed that they are losing the Raiders to Las Vegas, or maybe they are basketball fans and root for the Warriors. After all, the Warriors are the hot team in the area.

The Montreal Expos had a similar problem. Plenty of sports fans in Montreal, but the hot sport was NHL (hockey), not baseball.
