If I told her directly, I'd take extra care not to just seem completely creepy. There's nothing wrong with being honest, and some people (understandably) associate a penchant for feet (and a number of other things) with pure awkward weirdness.

If I'm attracted to someone (for any reason), then I usually try to become friends with them, in order to establish enough rapport that I can warn them I'd like to ask some personal questions and make sure they're okay with that. This is probably the best way to go. I had the same situaton in college and when I found out she had a boyfriend this was my plan B. And it worked like a charm! GTS, you would have loved me if you had attended college with me back in the late 1970s. But there would have been about 30 other girls from whom you could have chosen. The combination of us attending a very politically liberal college and living in a time when it was cool to go barefoot, well, I walked around campus in my bare feet all the time, weather permitting.

I went to see my sister star in her college play this weekend. The campus is 85 percent female, which is very very nice.
