Well, I have a story from Friday that can show just how stupid and idiotic some service companies can be.
On Friday, I was supposed to have my digital cable package installed, because they had taken four out of my five movie channels away without warning, and converted them to digital cable. So, after balking for years, I decided it was time.
I had an appointment for them to come to my Apt between 8:30 to 10:30 on Friday, AM. I called at 8:30 just to double check that they had me scheduled, and they assured me that they would be there. After waiting two hours, and them not showing up, I called them back at 10:30, asking if they would be coming any time soon, and they again lied and said yes. Finally, at 11, after waiting 2 1-2 hours, and having things to do, I called them back a third time, and inquired what the deal was. I was then told that they just learned that the tech who was supposed to come to my place to install the cable, had called in sick, and they may or may not get someone out to me that day. Not wanting to waste the whole day, and not trusting their word after what they did, I cancelled the work order for Friday, and made it for Sunday, between 830 and 1030 again. I will be on the phone with them before 8 30 tomorrow, to see what the deal is. I hope the dunces show up.
Iam not one who stands on ceremony or is high on the hog about anything, but to me, this is pitiful service to give to one's customers. First they lie to me that a tech is coming, and then jerk me around that he may or may not come. I sure as hell hope that they show up tomorrow. What losers!
Has anyone ever had a terrible experience with pitiful customer service from a company? This has to rank right up there with one of my all time worst ones, for time wasted, and lies! :Grrr:

All cable companies and dish companies schedule that way as do most service companies. the window is there because it is not easy to judge what problems they might encounter from one job to the next, or in your case someone getting sick and backing up all of the calls for that day.

Normal business as usual for these types of companies.

If it is any consolation, I have been with comcast for 5 years now and find them to be a very good company for overall service.....

Ray 😉

I can relate...

Comcast sucks!! That's all there is to it. When I called to upgrade to digital cable last year, they shut off my cable internet service in the process. When I called about it, they said "oh, we wanted to create a combined account. Your internet service will be back on, on Thursday (this was Saturday.) Gotta luv it!

Oh, btw, Comcast does have an "on time guarantee." If they are not on time, you get a $20 credit to your account. They don't do it automatically, you have to ask for it!

We had trouble with Comcast too. When DirectTV came out with the exclusive to the NFL football package, we switched. Also the price was better than cable and way more channels. You might consider satellite which is GREAT except on the rare times the weather sucks out here.

XOXO

CCS or Crappy Customer Service is a way of life, it seems. My example isn't about cable companies, but it's aggravating just the same.

Here's one of my experiences (and this has happened many times):

As I approach the cashier I notice that she is engaged in a conversation with a friend or co-worker. I approach her with my item... she grabs it from me, scans it, all the while maintaining the conversation with her friend. The cashier looks at me long enough to say "$6.95" or whatever and proceeds to chat as she takes my money and hands me my change. Not so much as a "Thank you for shopping at Ursula's Undies" or whatever. I leave the store, trying to remember that her lack of courtesy is no reason for me to lose my composure. Can anyone relate to this?

Update: The cable company finally did show up on time today, and I got my digital, just in time to watch the Mets probably beat the Braves! 😡 I do like the channel selection. It seems weird to have channels going up to 400.

Cable companies, DSL/Dish companies, and Power companies are notorious for bad service due to the local monopolies they establish in an area. Due to the expensive nature of these industries, it's hard for a truly competitive market to develop in a local area. Each of these industries require a massive amount of investment in local infrastructure to be able to provide their services to an area, and what often happens in the meantime is that they strike deals with local governments to establish their monopolies. Once they settle into their markets, they have very little incentive to provide good customer service because their customers are limited by what companies are in their area. Essentially, these utilities function as socialisms on the local level due to a lack of true competition....

When competition is nonexistent, the customer always suffers....

Very well put, Macphisto, my friend, and so true, unfortunately. Good Post, and insight. Thank you.

Cheers,
Mitch

Thanks, Mitchell... I'm glad things worked out for ya with the cable service....

GRRR! Another reason for me to hate Comcast. I just read an article on Howard Stern's website stating that Comcast is considering dropping him from it's lineup for quote "indencency". This is such beauacratic garbage! What Comcast is saying that because of a few idiot right wing politicians who want Stern off the air due to their bogus claims of "indencency", that adults at 11pm can t watch him tickle a girl? Woody Harrelson said it best in the People Vs Larry Flynt when people were giving Flynt heat about Hustler magazine. He said "If you dont like Hustler magazine, dont read it" It is the same thing with Stern. If you dont like Stern or think he is indecent, dont watch him. He still has a right to be on the air for those who want to see him, just as the TMF has a right to be here for adults who want to discuss tickling. It's the same thing with the TMF. If you dont like tickling, or our site, dont come here. GRRRR! This stupid decency garbage and political rhetoric is such bogus junk! Why dont they stop focusing on indencency, and start dealing with the real problems in the world, such as the homeless, or fathers and ex husbands who starve their familes out? Politicians and their decency claims are such a load of crap! 😡

Mitch

Because focusing on real issues would actually require politicians to do their job....

I have DirecTv and love it. Always had great service.
(Steph, Mitch has an apartment, which could make it tough or impossible to mount the dish for the required southern view. Otherwise I'd say 'heck yeah, dump the cable!').

I've used Adelphia for cable internet access for two years now. It's been a little flakey for the past few weeks (DNS servers going belly up, unable to connect for a few minutes here and there) but it seems to be smoothing out now. I think the problems were related to their upgrading all internet customers to 6 Mbps for no extra charge.

Always had good service for tech support though, and the original install was done on time, and flawlessly.

I will describe Adelphia cable in two words:

Adelphia Sucks!!!

It's the worst cable company in my state. Grant it comcast really sucks, but nothing compares with adelphia. Unless you want to bring in SBC into the discussion. They're rock bottom pathetic when it comes to service. They change your account without your knowledge or consent, then they lie about it swearing it was a computer problem. When you call them back a month later because the problem wasn't fixed, they jump you through hoops and rings of fire to gear you up for next month when you have to call them back....anyone noticing a pattern here besides me? :ranty: :Grrr:

kis123, looks like you don't like Adelphia ! :xpulcy:

are you unhappy with their TV service or internet access ?

Do you have other choices there in Ohio ?

Yknow Mitch its weird because im a subscriber to a different cable company (Cablevision) here in New York City and they did the EXACT SAME THING TO ME!!! I wasnt getting digital cable installed (although sooner or later I guess ill have to) but I needed a new box for my bedroom due to a poor picture. They called me 3 times to say they were on the way and then never showed up so I can relate. DSS anyone? :Grrr:

Truth be told, Stern was going to probably do that whether Comcast did or not. The fact is, with Satellite radio, there probably isnt going to be very much of his show that could run on E! anyway, unless he structured his broadcast in different segments (one segment for E! and then the separate segment with all of th "fucks" "tits" and everything else he is probably going to have said on the air). He was already as good as gone.
