On another forum, after you've sent a private message..you can go to your send box and see if it's been read or not..would it be possible for something like that to happen here?

It is possible here, but not enabled by default. When sending a PM, you can scroll down and check the box "Request a read receipt for this message." If replying to a PM, you can access that feature by clicking the button "Go Advanced" at the lower right of the screen, then scrolling down.
