It worked for me, BUT I've installed most of the codecs I could find online.

Now, while the name is silly, there's this utily, GSpot, which could really help you.

http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

You run it and then you load/drag the wmv over it.
Then click on RENDER on the lower left, and GSpot SHOULD tell you what codec you need/have to view it.
