As the resident hero (self-proclaimed of course), I thought to share my thoughts on Hollywood's new view on comics to film.

Daredevil was GOOD , I enjoyed it a lot! Definately different than Spidey. He had grit and he actually gave me the feel that my mentor and screenname hero does when he stalks the night... I can see him causing fear to criminals of the night. I loved the dark feel to the film. For those ragging on the Spidey love story (which I had no problem with), they should like this one better. If not.. well.. stop going to the movies and read a book. 😛

I loved Bullseye, Colin had the eyes of a psycho and I thought played that insane villian well.

Jennifer was stunning as Electra, she has now become my #1 fav gal in any list I have, including dream ticklee. 😉 Sorry Faith Hill.

Anyway, I promised no spoilers, so I won't since I saw it the night before it's to be released.

I will definately see it again. Will it pull the money in like Spidey? I don't believe so BUT it will do well since it was put together with well thought out writing. It has great potential but Spidey was a household name versus Daredevil, the red Devil will be at a disadvantage cuz of that. I'll have to wait to see what money it rakes in to see how the general public thought of it.

I don't think I will worry from this point on about superhero movies. The past had made me very skittish when I would hear about bringing a hero to the big screen. I STILL have a bad taste from Batman 3 and 4.
Marvel brought me back my faith (not Hill). 🙂

I'm glad Hollywood is realizing that these heroes have heart and true character. X-men, Spidey and now Daredevil. Bring on the Hulk and X-men 2 ! What a year for the heroes.

Punisher, Namor and now Ironman (2005) are around the corner. So cool to be a comic book fan now. Yes true believers.. Hollywood is finally doing us fans right.

p.s.- New Hulk trailer and X-men 2 trailer! Guess what organic-steel hero was shown transforming (partial chest shot) ? 😉

Peace,
DK

I agree, in that I think Daredevil will do well in theaters. Not as good as Spiderman, because I don't think Daredevil is as widely known or recognized as Spidey is. A couple minor things bother me about the movie though.

The first is obviously that Kingpin, as he is portrayed in Marvel comics, is usually a Spiderman comic villain, correct me if I'm wrong, and is also white, not that I'm racist. The second is that they portray Daredevil like some sort of Spiderman-type superhero, which he isn't. Now, I haven't read that many comics featuring Daredevil, but my impression was that he's just a normal athletic gymnast kinda guy with two batons and implanted radar eyes.

Any other thoughts on the movie?

I thought it was great in its own right. Not as great as Spiderman, but great all the same. Colin did a great job as Bullseye. Did you see Stan "The Man" Lee ('Daredevil' creator) and Kevin "Silent Bob" Smith?

I loved the trailer for "X-Men 2" That movie is going to kick ass this summer.

Sure did GL! Always great to see Stan the Man. I actually watch out for him in every Marvel movie. Wonder where he'll be in the Hulk movie?

Thx10050- Um Double D's eyes aren't "implanted radar eyes". Check out the movie and you'll see. No pun intended. 😉

I've not yet seen the film, but from the clips I have seen, i don't really have a problem with Michael Clarke Duncan as the Kingpin. He's a good actor, and let's face it: Where are you going to find a white guy that big without casting a wrestler?

I never read Daredevil. Never knew anything about Daredevil except that he was a marvel character (I am mostly a DC fan). I saw the movie tonight. Besides Superman (which I love because it is my favorite movie, but the only flaw is the Lex Luthor and Otis) I think this is the best and most realistic portrayal of a comic character. It was told with heart and genuine concern for verisimilitude. Ben is a hero with flaws, both personal and character. He takes drugs to quench the pain and the regret of what being a crime fighter does. It was everything I was hoping that the Batman movies would have been, but sadly wasn’t. This is a not just a good movie, it is a great movie. Lets put it this way-I went with some of my family to see it. My Mom hates superhero movies and hates Ben Affleck. She absolutely loved this movie. And I think it will be very successful too. It was in 2 of the larger theaters in the biggest local multiplex and both shows were sold out. I am just curious why Fox felt that this film was a Feb. release? It should have been a summer of winter season release. Feb is usually relegated to the low budget and other films that studios feel are dogs and release so they don’t have to do a big campaign, thereby saving more money from their perceived loss of profit.

Loved the movie....................but...............it reminded me of something horrible.....I wont say what cuz I wont give away the plot but video gamers will know what Im talking about.

I like the look of the film although I haven't seen it yet. Very tempted.

I just wish they'd do what they did in he comics and combine all the Marvel characters. I mean, how cool would it be to have Spidey, the X-Men and Daredevil in one movie?

This is coming from a huge fan of Marvel so just ignore me hehe

DC are combining characters in films soon. Batman and Superman... which sounds like a very crappy idea to me but nevermind. I think re-making Spawn and giving him a shared story with Batman might be good, since they're both very dark characters. But the movie they did of Spawn a few years ago was terrible, nothing like the comic at all...

Okay I'm ranting now... I'll stop...😀

Had to sum up DareDevil for a friend of mine who was debating what to watch two minutes before the start of the film and came up with this:

"Marvel's version of The Crow"

It's got a very similar feel and a hero who's just fascinating to watch. Okay, imo it's not quite on the same level, but as I count The Crow as one of my all time favourite films so that's not surprising 😀 .

Hell of a good film, love some of the tricks they did with both the visuals and the sound field to bring you inside the character. Perfect casting (Michael Clark Duncan I thought was perfect, hope he turns up in a Spiderman flick), great story (and a couple of moments where I'd swear I'd heard the Kevin Smith 'tweaks' coming through) and seeing Mr K Smith in a film besides the Jersey Trilogy was great, especialy in such a geeky role 😛

Oh, and the icing on the cake, at least in my local UGC it's got the trailers for the Matrix flims and X-men 2 attached, although I found I'm looking forward to X2 more than The Matrix follow-ups which surprised me.

DC really need to pay attention here, Marvel have got it sorted when it comes to comic --> film movies, now DC should follow suit and give us a proper Batman movie at least. And I'd love to see a new Spawn filck. Actually liked the original, but something in the same style as the animated version would be great.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that DD's eyes are implanted radar-like devices, from the comics' perspectives. But I think the movie wanted to make it more natural. *Shrugs* Gotta look up some Marvel cards and comics now to make sure...

BOFH666,

I'm a huge Crow fan and I think this movie did have the feel like the Crow. Of course nothing compares to the Crow.

thx10050- I agree you should. No offense but it didn't sound like you really know the DareDevil. To be fair, I'm a big Marvel buff so I know my heroes. Yet I picked a DC hero to be my icon. Go figure. 🙂

as a marvel fan have to disagree with a copule of you.
as the comics goes dareddevils radar senses are not implanted. The movie origin of how he got his powers is exactly acurate.
on the pluss side I have to say that I have not seen the movie yet but as a marvel fan It looks great

Marvel fans should go see this one!!!

Generally Hollywood will change something about the heroes, like Spidey's web shooters being organic. The movie showed perfectly how he got blinded. Sure.. in the comics he was saving an old guy and this time around he was just a kid in the wrong place. So close enough for me. I already forgot Wolverine was a shrimp in the comics cuz of Jackman.

And that's about all I will add to this thread. Next on my list will be X-men 2. I'll just sit here and wait till May. 😀

Yea

I love Marvel Comics....can't wait to see DD...but....Im still waiting for a new movie based on my fav. Superhereo, Captain America!! ARRGGHHH!! ....lol 😉

I know

I know, ice. Thats why I said a "new" movie based on Cap.

I haven't seen DAREDEVIL - though I certainly plan to - but the Elektra casting.... still bugs me... couldn't they have gotten someone a little more exotic? A little more ....Greek? It was like casting Halle Barry as Storm.

thoughts on dare devil

I freakin loved it. All the critics can stop their little bitching. Ben afleck did a great job as the dd man. It had a coool cast of character, with a great strory line. I go to the movies for the fun factor not to point out actors mistakes and stuff. Cant wait for xmen2 this summer, and the incredible hulk. ACtually my friend said that the voice of kingpin from the spiderman show is played by a black man. But who cares if they changed the look of some characters. Michael clark duncan is a great actor, who can do many roles. Thats all!!give it 3 out of four stars.

I Came I Saw I Liked

I too enjoyed Dare Devil, and thought it was better then Spider-Man. Why? Well how about because unlike the Web Spinner's Flick, it followed the comic story line closer. it had more of a Pilot epasode fell to it then a block buster flick, but it was still a cool movie. Personaly I think that with the right group of writers a comic would be better as a TV show then a movie. it gives you a longer length of time to develop charactores, story lines, and the like. Well that's all I have to say...for now LOL

Actually, no it's not exactly accurate. Okay here come's a spoiler(for anyone who hasn't read the comics or seen the movie..or both)

In the comics, remember that DD's "powers" aren't just a result of those chemicals he got in his eyes (which , of course, blinded him). It was a combination of the chemicals AND his teacher, "Stick" training him to fight even BETTER than people who can see..and how to use his enhanced senses for other things as well.

In the movie, however(this is what I've read)...Matt teaches HIMSELF how to fight blind. How he did that, I have no idea. It's not like he has tons of money for cool training gear like Batman does. lol
(speakin of ol pointy ears, he's an expert at blind fighting as well.)

So, the way he gets his powers is just a little off, unless you count him being taught to fight as maybe developing his ablities.

Hey, I just realized somethin..we have a He-Man in here, a DarkKnight , and now a GL in here. Wonder how many more comic heroes have visited this site? lol By the way, Castle Grayskull is waaay cooler than some old, dark, depressing Batcave..don't see a hot Sorceress in YOUR lair, now do ya, Batman?!....so there!
😛 😀

Castle Grayskull may be cool but nothing beats a party at the Wayne mansion. 😛

His eyes weren't implanted was my point. The chemical accident did cause his Radar-sense but enhanced his fighting skills with it by training. A co-worker did mention how he hated how he just trained himself in the movie but he actually had someone (Stick) train him in the comics.

Didn't Stick pound on Juggernaught when he lost his Gem power? Same Stick? Anyone?

If I'm in the land of the living early enough tomorrow morn... ummm, make that later on this morning (don't you hate it when that happens?) I'm going to go see the film again and I'll check this then, but a quick comment on Stick not featuring in the film.

(Spoiler Alert - awooga awooga etc)

From what I remember we see Matt teaching himself basic fighting skills with normal training kit his dad uses, and by the logic of the film using his cane against three bullies wouldn't necessarily need special training (enhanced senses coupled with radar vision could let you do that, especially against three kids who thought they had the upper hand). The film then jumps from kid Matt to adult Matt almost instantly after his dad gets killed and it's only then we see the Real Flashy Moves(tm). We're not shown what happens in the middle, so it doesn't directly contradict the comics, it just doesn't show Stick this time round and gives a handy plot point from the back story to pick up in DD2 of course 😀

Argghhhh, spot the Babylon 5 fan, able to analyse plot from fifty yards.
