So, here we sit with a whole new year to look forward to. These seem to always come like a morning sky...bright and full of promise, but often dissolving into a grey, wet mess.
We make our resolutions and break them before the playoffs start. We wish a cornicopia of benevolence that we are either unable or unwilling to help achieve. So with that in mind, I decided to forgoe all of that and look ahead to 2004 with reasonable and achievable goals. Some are for myself, some for my friends and aquaintances, most for the world at large. Pyramids and castles are built one brick at a time, not all at once. There's no "World-Peace-In-A-Can" or blister-packed "Love-O-Matic" to be found at Wal-Mart, so my hopes for 2004 come in single steps that will hopefully lead to longer strides in 2005 and, God willing, leaps and bounds by the end of the decade...
One less human being killed in the name of God; one more human being turning to God for guidance.
One less abortion; one more adoption.
One less half-naked teenager; one more true musician.
One less missile; one more Space Shuttle.
One less reaction; one more moment of thought.
One less reality show; one more great program given more than two weeks to float.
One less extinction; one more preserve.
One less war; one more Woodstock.
One less criticism; one more unexpected accolade.
One less teacher laid off; one more child graduating.
One less soldier killed; one more shot at diplomacy.
One less Stephen King movie; one more Tolkien film.
One less tax cut for the rich; one more job for the poor.
One less Big Mac; one more family dinner.
One less gun; one more handshake.
One less sin...
...One more chance.
