I have not been able to fall asleep easily at night now for a looong time i feel and its killing me in college with all the work I have to do. Anyone have any suggestions on ways to fall asleep easier?

I'm not an insomniac (I'm a night person but I have no trouble falling asleep), but I found a link that might help you out. http://www.well.com/user/mick/insomnia/ And some of the TMF members will have tips for you as well, I'm sure. Good luck.

In Holland it is no problem at all. Get some green substance that's illegal in the US, smoke it and you'll sleep like a baby. Friend of mine does that all the time to fix his insomnia problems

try this like i did: just lie on your bed and don't move, eventually you'll get really bored or you actually will start sleeping

melatonin- it's my remedy and it's a chemical that your body makes naturally which tells the brain it's sleepy time. As you get older however, it starts making less. I started taking it in 02 and while I still have an occasional night of not sleeping well,(with my dad in a nursing home, that's to be expected) I have been sleeping better for the most part.

Insomniac here, ever since I was a baby. The parental units put me down every day from 2-4 pm every day. Every day I spent "naptime" playing w/my toys, reading my books, crawling out of my crib and falling onto the floor trying to reach for a little book. I blame it on them.

I read an interview once w/Billy Crystal, he's like "It's a terrible thing~basically I've been up since 1966..." OMG, me too!
Drinking helps me sometimes (dumbass, i know)...ooh and nice sheets! Santa brought me 1000 thread count for Xmas~it's made a huge difference! Excercise too, but several hours prior to sleep...
XOXO

-Certain foods, like milk or turkey, have something in them (don't remember what off the top of my head.) that makes you sleepy.

Tryptophan is what you're thinking of.
Here's a blurb from a website:

"Turkey does contain L-tryptophan, an essential amino acid with a documented sleep inducing effect. L-tryptophan is used in the body to produce the B-vitamin, niacin. Niacin, in turn, is used to produce serotonin, a neurotransmitter that exerts a calming effect and regulates sleep."
