Debate on the patriots running up the score issue!!

By the same token, if the Patriots aren't following the written rules about cheating ( last I knew no cheating was a written rule ) then what in the world would make you think that they would follow any UN-written rules???

No one can take the stigma away; the Pats f-ed up and now the world is supposed to believe that their winning streak is solely from their own efforts??? Well there was a time I believed in Santa and the Easter Bunny but...........

I'm a Pats fan, but I'll say it....I never found Belichik to really be a "nice" guy or anything...and I've gone on record as saying that the whole videotaping thing, as much as it was blown up, was a really STUPID move by the Pats. But they were punished for it, and I say we move on.

As to the issue of running up the score, I never got that complaint. To me, if you're complaining about running up the score, it's just another way of saying "Hey, guys, go easy on us, cuz you know we suck." I'm sorry, but I don't want to hear professional athlete millionaires complaining that teams should 'take it easy' on us. Instead of complaining about having the score run up, how about you push yourself harder and step up your game? Isn't that what competition is all about?

Besides, what constitutes running up the score? Up by 4 TDs? By 5? 6? At what point is a team running it up, as opposed to just hitting their stride?

You can't move on. That is the point. The fact is with every win the cheating aspected becomes more magnified. The fact is, they were caught cheating. There was no apology or any statement that was acceptable to the public.

In fact, the evidence was destroyed ( or so they say ). Did he cheat in the Super Bowl??? He might have. But that could NEVER become public. If it did, then all those advertisers would pull out of the most watched game on television. You couldn't suspend Belichick for any length because then you create an issue of whether he did or didn't cheat in the Super Bowl.

The NFL was in a catch-22 situation. Now the thought is that the Patriots are STILL cheating by jamming the headset frequencies. This just does not bode well for the Patriots. Are they cheating??? Maybe!!! But I have learned one thing in life that CAN'T be disputed: Once a cheater, always a cheater. Bill Belichick is a cheater. So you can't move on because your head coach is a cheater. That is a fact that you can't dispute.

Well unfortunately, theres very little ethics in any sport nowadays. so we all have to accept that. its all about the mighty dollar. so im just going with the flow. and i know your secretly jealous because you know your cleveland browns would get the field wiped clean with them if they played the mighty Pats.

I'm presently happy with my Browns' progress; they haven't looked this good in years and they can only get better from here. Oh, and the pats did wipe the floor with the Browns---so what?? If you don't bring your A game and your quarterback is hit-shy and chokes when the defense is in his face, your team deserves to lose!!

the fact that the patriots have improved from the last 2 years probably has something to do with their roster improvements in the offseason, not cheating. having moss, welker and stallworth is a slight improvement over caldwell, gaffney and brown.

To the Patriot defenders....yes, your team is running up the score. I know, I know, "you're supposed to play 60 minutes", but c'mon folks, what the Patriots are doing is outside sportsmanship rules.

First example. The Buffalo Bills game. It was 35-7 and we all know there was no way in hell the Bills were going to come back. It is 4th down. Most NFL teams would kick a field goal. Not the Patriots. They throw another TD pass. Give me a break. That is running up the score.

The question is, WHY is Brady still playing? If it was Matt Cassell throwing those late TD strikes, then oh well for the Bills. But, the more Belichick does his bullsh*t, the more he is going to open Tom Brady to cheap shots.

Second example. Patriots lead the Dolphins 42-14. Brady is on the sidelines chilling with like 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter. The game for all intent and purposes is over. Cassell throws a INT which Miami returns for a score. It is now 42-21. We damn well know the Dolphins are not going to come back. Belicheat puts in Brady, who proceeds to throw another TD pass. That's a load of bull and you know it.

Belicheat is trying to send a message I guess. You know what my response would be to that if he is trying to run up the score? An 11 man blitz and to nail Brady HARD and I will force that punk Belicheat to pull his starters. If the 2nd string is blowing me out, fine. But you WILL NOT HAVE YOUR STARTERS running up the score. Brady will be in pain and then Belicheat would have to answer the question of why his QB was still in the game, when everyone knew the Patriots were going to win the game handily. I do not take kindly to people trying to show me up. I would send my message to that ass by "kindly" blindsiding Brady late in the game.

Do not be surprised if that happens this year.....

It's unsportsmanlike, unprofessional, and just plain rude IMO! You've already dominated, why humiliate? It's not necessary and fans get turned off by it!

I've watched my daughter play sports since she was in 6th grade and she's now a college sophomore. She's played in school, intramurals, and traveling teams on the A+ level. When they have a team beat, they put in the 2nd string and let them score a few points for posterity and dignity's sake. You don't take the other teams dignity away from them---you just don't.

The only message the Pats are sending IMO is that they want to get everyone to ignore the cheating angle. I'm sorry, I'm not the least bit fooled. I still wonder how they got those superbowl victories. I still wonder how long they have been cheating before they got caught. I wonder how long it's going to be before Brady (who I absolutely can't stand as a human being) gets knocked the hell out!!! Belechick is making a HUGE mistake by keeping him in the game. Someone on the defense isn't going to mind getting fouled or fined by taking a shot at Brady that could cost the Pats the rest of the season.

No one is saying the Patriots should kneel the ball, what we are saying is that they should take the starters out. I see no problem with the scoring if it is Matt Cassell and the backups scoring at will. But the fact that it is Brady still in the game late is what bothers people.

As a man (or in women's sports), I would not sit there and tolerate someone trying to show me up. Being involved in football, I have witnessed getting blown out and trust me, when you are losing big, you want to get out of the game as quickly as possible. To see the other team still pouring it on with their starters can piss off the opponent because you are now humiliating them. I do not believe in "running up the gut" to kill the clock, but I would have the 2nd/3rd team running the offense. They deserve to run the same offense as the starters since they are at practices too.

If I see the starters still in the game in the 4th quarter and we are losing 42-14 (for example), then I see their starting QB in the game tossing another TD strike, as a coach, I am dialing out a monster blitz WITH the intent of hitting Brady. Not necessarily cripple the man, but to hit him hard enough to force him and Belicheat to pull him out, otherwise the next hit may end his season. YOU WILL NOT SHOW ME UP.

Can Patriot fans tell me what is the point of keeping Brady in the game when the game is out of hand and victory is assured and preventing your backups from playing as well? There is NO excuse. Again, don't be surprised if Brady doesn't finish the season because Belicheat is an ass and is trying to "send a message". The response to that message may cost him a SuperBowl.
