Is it possible to delete posts? How can I do that?

You can delete any post that is NOT the first post of its thread.
First click on "Edit Post" which appears near the lower right corner when you are looking at one of your own posts.
Then click on "Delete" which will appear near the lower right corner of new editing window which you will then see.
A new small tab will appear below the editing window. You need to do two things:
1) Click in the little circle to the left of "Delete Message" on the left side of this new tab.
2) Click on "Delete Post" on the right side of this new tab.

If you formally delete a post as described, does it subtract one from your total number of TMF posts?

Yes, it does. That is why I rarely delete posts.

Milagros has been here a little over 15 years which is ~5500 days. He has ~416000 posts. That is on average ~75 posts per day, every day for 15 years. How? It's more mind blowing the longer you think about it.

Not really. 75 posts can easily be made in 90 minutes.
And is just 90 minutes less time wasted watching television. 😀
