Just wondering. I always hear these bizarre laws in a state or country. Like its illegal to clap your hands while wearing in a red shirt in the state of blah blah...

So I was thinking, do different countries or even cultures view the act of tickling differently? Is tickling illegal in any country? is it frowned upon in any culture?
I think its an interesting question.

Haha, if you're under Sharia law, if you tickle or even interact with another guy's wife the slightest, don't complain when your ass is kicked.

I don't know if this counts, but my ex-wife was from mainland China and spoke English as a second language. Whenever she tried to describe being tickled, she always used the word "suffering", and instead of saying "ticklish" she would say "afraid of it". eg, "My sister is afraid of it" versus "my sister is ticklish".

Now thats creepy phineas :S

Im from the uk but I read that many years ago someone made it illegal in virginia I think and the law was never lifted so it should still be in place today

When I was in Africa I was hanging with a girl I met at a bar. While making out and such I tickled her to which she stopped everything and said "what was that?!?". She didn't mean literally "what was that" but it was more a scolding to the American guy that was ruining the mood. Usually with most girls a tickle here and there is met with slight giggles and flirting....definitely a different reaction. There might have been some African girls in the city I was in that loved tickling.....but I was only there for one night...therefore 1 girl.

The German girl I dated hated to be tickled....but her reaction was the same as any American girl that didn't like it. The Mexican women I've been with seem more apt to aim to please.

But these are my experiences and certainly don't reflect on the group but instead say more about the individuals.

I doubt the laws you find on those sites are even real. BUT if you tickle a woman without her consent, it's considered sexual harassment and therefore illegal, but the act of tickling with consent i doubt will be illegal. It's like saying giving someone a high five is illegal.

1) Any law that is still on the books CAN be used to prosecute a citizen who breaks that law. The reason that no one enforces these laws is that everyone knows they're stupid. I remember reading about a woman who was arrested in New York a year ago or so because she was fooling around with a man who wasn't her husband, and adultery was still illegal in New York. The big question when cops do decide to arrest based on old, stupid laws is whether the prosecutor will actually go through with the case, or more likely, drop the charges.

2) Sexual harrassment isn't illegal, as far as I know. Sexual harrassment is a term used by workplaces, schools, etc, in their policies to prevent a hostile work environment from developing. Tickling someone without their consent would fall into assault or perhaps battery, whichever one of those is defined as an unwanted touching in the laws of whichever state you're in.

I don't know about illegal, but I have heard that Laughter is frowned on in Japan [and maybe other Asian countries], something to do with their Religion or something like that, so since tickling causes Laughter I guess it's not smiled upon.

Sense when is sexual harassment not illegal? There are plenty of instances where people have gone to jail and prison for sexual harassment.

You can be sued for sexual harassment, but it will be a civil claim, i.e., you are suing to collect monetary damages. The defendant is not being charged with a crime in that case.

The people that go to jail for sexual harassment aren't actually being charged with a crime called "sexual harassment," but instead are being charged with a variety of other crimes, depending on what they actually did. If they touched someone inappropriately, for example, they might be charged with sexual battery, depending on the statutes of the state in which the crime was committed. Or if they committed rape, they're charged with rape.

In fact, the federal government EEOC web site states, Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination that violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Title VII applies to employers with 15 or more employees, including state and local governments. It also applies to employment agencies and to labor organizations, as well as to the federal government.
So sexual harassment is illegal.
