Do many people on the forum use Apple Macs?

A Mac is just a really expensive, really simplistic PC.

So tell me, complicated is better than simple? Or is there something your PC can do that a MAC cannot? (aside from freezing up, blue screen, virus and mal-ware infestation, Windows malfunction, etc). Honestly, these uninformed posts of yours as of late and it will be more than MAC stores handing you a ball and a cup. 😀

I started off with an electric typewriter in college....no, really. We had Macs in undergrad - LOVED them. Everything was easy - word program, art program, music program. Good quality. When I got to vet school, our computer lab had TWO Macs... and everyone fought over them. Because the rest of the computers were PC.... and this scary thing called Windows had just come out that was supposed to be AMAZING! I'm not sure looking back I wouldn't have been better off using DOS but... anyway, I forced myself to learn. Not love. But learn. And now that I have a choice? And yeah, sorry Bothersome, my budget is better than yours and better than mine was in college... I have MacBook Pro. I've had it with my other laptop PCs (and I've had two or three of those plus a couple of desktops since I graduated in '97). So mark me as a Mac user (who probably doesn't use 10% of its AWESOME potential).

Well if you run Linux on a PC you can do much better than when battling with Microsoft. But, oh wait, the Mac OS shares a common lineage with Unix. Shucks, smart design wins again.

Yeah, it can keep me from losing my home because I can't pay my bills.

I can't afford a Mac that can do more than run notepad. I probably will never have a job that pays enough to afford that.

So, yeah. When it costs four times as much, simplicity is very much inferior to complexity. If I can choose between two machines that do the exact same thing, I'm going to choose the cheaper one. That's just being responsible. 😉

And honestly, I have never had a problem with Windows. Maybe I just fit into the learning curve better or something, but Windows has always been very good and simple for me. The hardware is by far more complicated than the software for me. Vista was absolute crap, but Windows 7 has been doing good by me for over a year now.

Well, maybe if you do well in your on-line finals, we'll pass the hat and see what we can do for you. In the meantime, this "I probably will never have a job that pays enough to afford that" attitude speaks more to your lack of confidence than moth-riddled wallet. Be warned: it can be dangerously self-prophetic. So drop it.

Well, you misunderstand. I don't like wasting money.

So, for me to ever have enough money to buy a Mac, I will have to have enough excess money to buy a Mac that can outperform my current PC.

I'm not going to have an excess of 2-5 grand in the next 20 years unless I win the lottery or grow an extra brain.

Brick.

Sure, stick to Mac. Just enjoy your lack of gaming support, need to cycle programs every two years, use a less efficient RAM, support a company near the bottom of the environmentally responsible list, only really be able to swap out RAM, void your warranty by trying to tweak anything else, all the while spending way more than a comparable PC. Just don't be suprised when you're seen as an idiot with more money than brains.

Well the only reason I bought a Mac was because I used them for two years in college when I was working in the recording studios producing live bands and electronic music. I wasn't really interested in the processing power of the computer or the ability to use the machine for gaming, only the fact that my lecturers always said that Logic and ProTools were the industry-standard for music making software. I'd have to say that they were right about how good those programmes were, and still are. I can see both sides of the argument.

I see. Of course some softwares/apps are developed on different platform. I use PC for the same reason that I am dependent on an app that is strictly for PC (or developed for PC) and is not so supported in Mac. Other than that, no need for bloodshed, I am really not acquainted with Mac.

BTW, I have seen a comprehensive tutorial demo video of Pro tools too, and yes, it is an app for Mac.

Wow! Logic!!! I remember having a copy of that monster. Huge and powerful. The manual was 3 inches thick. Good memories. German in origin, I believe.
