Do you care what people think about your taste in music?

I think some people actually do. And it's so sad. Who cares if someone does not like your style of music or doesn't like the bands and artists that you like and listen to. We're all different in our own way.

Heck most of the music that i listen to i'm sure about half of my friends could not stand for more then 10 seconds... 🙂 But i still like it. So i listen to what i want to listen to and really don't care about other peoples thoughts. Lol i'm searching for music right now while writing this so this is a rant post more then anything.

I could care less. It's like an artist making music based on what he/she feels will sell instead of what they feel. N.W.A. is one of my favorite groups of all-time and I could care less what anyone feels about their genre or lyrics.

Dont care what they think of my music, i get crap like "dude this sucks" and i go "its more talented than the synthesized generated crap u listen to" or "its still better than emo"

I never change my music tastes for anyone, unless i need to keep it down for some reason of the person....but i routinely enjoyed blarin cemetary gates and timing how long it took a prissy girl down the hall to huff down and close the fire door(note i woulda lowered it down if she asked me) but yeah, 19 seconds of dimebag guitar was the limit

dumb

In a nut shell..... if someone makes fun of you for the music you like then they are dumb 🙂 keep smiling and listen to what ever you want... :bouncybou

I dont give a flying fuck on what people think of my music..or what they think of me myself for that matter LOL To hell with robotic socciety, be free, be yourself and if anyone dont like it? They can eat a fat one

I actually buy more soundtrack CD's because I like the variety of music on the play list. Being of Latino descent, I have a whole other genre of music that I can enjoy so I can be versatile in my music tastes, which range from Classical Music and Classic Rock to a lot of the music that my kids listen to.

I don't really care much in what people think of my taste in music. They make fun of me until a Sinatra tune comes on. They sit on their asses while I dance with the prettiest girl in the place and laugh at them! :devil2:

I remember back in High School, I did care. Very much. I took quite a bit of shit for it...but it never stopped me from enjoying what it is I like. The people who gave me shit for it were singularly unable to influence my tastes for the better...one of these friends used to say to anyone who asked, with a straight face, "I like Genesee Cream Ale for the aftertaste"...and listened passionately to Dr. Demento on the radio on Sunday nights.

When the people who are so insecure in their own tastes that they would come to you and bother you about yours, what you do is turn the volume up until they cover their ears!

I absolutely could careless what others think of the music I listen to, and actually I could careless what others think about most everything else in my life as well. Life is complicated enough without worrying about that stuff. If they don't like what I listen to then they don't need to listen to it.

hee hee :couch: Yeah...they can eat a fat one....lol.
I don't care either....I like what I like :couch:

I listen to what makes ME happy....not anyone else.

And that even includes some emo. 😛

Mimi 😉

I heard this saying once: "What someone else thinks of me is none of my business." People can ridicule my tastes if they want to, but I'll listen to the music that I like regardless of what Joe or Jill Schmoe thinks of it.

I made a compilation CD for a friend's ten year old son. He wants to learn to play guitar, so I made him a CD featuring songs by Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Cream, you name it. Who better to listen to than the guitar greats, right? So what did he think of it? He said he preferred the music of Simple Plan and bands like that. I wanted to vomit on the floor when he said that but I remembered how I used to feel when people would make fun of my favorite bands when I was his age. I'm just happy the kid wants to learn to play guitar. By the time he's in his teens his musical horizons will have broadened and I'm sure he'll like a lot of great music by then.

Thats to be expected though..all these youths today have heard and grown up around nothing but the garbage/nonsence thats been comin out since the early - mid 90s, when they hear real talent, real instruments, non sampled music or true guitar work, it dont sound right to them, so it makes sence. Not a whole lot we can do bout it really other than try to introduce real music of all genres to younger audiences and well...some accept it and some dont..hit or miss 🙂

LOL I'm so used to being all alone in my musical tastes that I have actually come to enjoy the fact that I'm different. I love all kinds of music though (so long as it's good) and so I can usually talk about music with just about anyone. :Hyrdrogen

No I don't care what people think. I grew up on Pink Floyd and The Doors. My parents didn't like that Vietnam era, late 60's- early 70'smusic and now some many years later, my sons make fun of my music, saying, I'm not with it. I can never win.

It doesnt matter to me. although i do have to question the reason behind liking crap, oops, i meant rap music. :disgust:

Just when I had given up hope for the music of today, I find this band named Vertigo. Rather, they found me. (They sent me a friend request) This is one of the better bands at MySpace.com. Listen to the song "Vertigo" and tell me if you don't hear a touch of 1970s Progressive Rock in their playing. These guys are heading in the right direction, if you ask me. Real music played by real musicians. (I believe these guys are in their early 20s but for all I know they may have been around for years. If they are young then they were certainly influenced by a lot of great bands)

Great thread!

I will say that I can talk about music with almost absolutely anyone because my taste is huge. I could talk for hours with a punk rocker or an ex-hippy or a blues lover or an old guy who listens to classical, anyone. Also, even though I'm only 18 it bothers me what kids listen to and their attitude, so I DO care what they think because it's sad to see it like that. Hardly anyone I know listens to anything over 15 years old. It's pathetic because the bands they listen to would hate them for saying that the older stuff is crap because it's what they've been listening to their whole lives! The hypocrisy is alarming but my generation are of course idiots :upsidedow

LOL I had no clue you were only 18. My best friend believe it or not is of your generation and he feels the same way you do. Great to see theres some young people out there that are open minded to learn music!

I care not at all, not the least because if I did I'd have a great many people decrying my choices as I like just about anything. 😀 From classic Burl Ives to 1920's Bluegrass to Classical Beethoven and Wagner to foriegn (Non-US in this case) bands to *SOME* more recent music, I find myself enjoying it all.
