Does Anyone On Here Have An iBook G4?

I recently bought an iBook G4 (Apple) on eBay. It is my "toy." Nothing spectacular--just something different--inspired by my liking my iPhone 4 and 5c (my 4 went swimming). I love Apple products and would LOVE to own a MacPro someday 🙂 Anyway, my iBook will, without warning, shut down in the middle of doing whatever (Google, eBay, etc.). I suspect the problem is the battery since it doesn't do this while charging like it's doing right now.

Also, it gets very hot underneath. I am typing this with it sitting on my lap. Is there a cooler platform of some kind that I could use?

Any info will be greatly appreciated. Yes, it's ancient--but it's cute. 🙂

They run very hot. Not much you can do but get a lap pad to protect yourself from the heat.

As for the shutting down issue, if it's got an old battery in it, which it sounds as if it does, the batter is probably loosing charge pretty fast, and once it drops below a certain percent, the machine shuts down to prevent a power loss shut down. You can get around this by always plugging in the charger when you use the machine. It makes it less portable, but if it's a toy and not a working machine not a horrid thing.
