Dr. Horrible's Sing-along-blog

Thanks for that! :woot:
Welcome 😉

if ya wanna see a real mad scientist that can sing, check out www.doctorsteel.com
Joss Whedon ripped off the general image of Doctor Steel, right down to his antics.
Actually, that's the image I always think of when I think "mad Dr/Scientist",
and I've seen it long before Dr. Steel was born 🙂 I think it's pretty iconic.
Neil Patrick Harris done several Sondheim shows -I think his singing is
great, and the songs are very Joss Whedon. I like it - perhaps not your cup of tea, though! 😉

Firefly rules all! Thanks for the links Lee, that was horribly fantastic! :jester:
Have you seen the firefly comics? they're available online - I think he did three of them.

Gotta love the genius of Joss Whedon.
Me too - Love the Sig!

indeed, the "mad scientist" image has been around for over 100 years, with Dr. Frankenstein being one of the first. however, there are various elements that Joss ripped from Dr. Steel, who has been working nearly 10 years to achieve his goal, and Joss has made the signing, blogging mad scientist popular before Steel could even get his foot in the door.

now there is the possibility of good ol' corporate media suing the good Doctor Steel should Horrible get any further than just a web series.

I have no idea where Joss Whedon gets his ideas, but for
the most part I like how he executes them. He's done a lot
of singing/musicals, especially in Buffy, and to me, this was
totally his style of music.

I saw Dr. Steel as a musician - has he perhaps done more,
in the acting field? I did not like his songs in the same way,
but perhaps if I had seen it first, I would have been more
appreciative 😉

Lee

I watched the first installment last night, very entertaining! It really is in the style of Buffy's "Once More With Feeling" musical episode. And it's a riot to see Firefly's "Captain Mal" on top of a moving truck ........singing!!

I totally agree with you on this, Lee. I know it wasn't to everybody tastes, but I loved the Once More With Feeling episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I liked this quite a bit also. I'd heard Neil Patrick Harris had been amazing in Assassins but had never seen him do musical theater before, so this was pretty cool to get a glimpse. This was certainly a fun treat. I'm amazed Joss was able to get it off the ground during the writer's strike.

Wow. I just finished Part III, and I know Whedon has a love of turning comedic moments into tragedy within seconds, but I didn't expect that ending! Twas a great story while it lasted! :bowing:

Captain Hammer's Ego is amazing 😉

That was a good episode!

I want to see the two Sondheim shows NPH did, if I can find them.
I had no idea he sang that well.

I read that most of the talent worked for little or no pay, maybe that
was a factor. I guess if you're creative, you need an outlet no matter
what else is going on around you, so you find a way!
Oh...
"It all started during some tedious downtime during the recent writers’ strike, when the Buffyverse creator decided that he wanted to do something creative, but was prohibited from writing for television or movies. What was left, besides comics?"

Just watching part 3 now 😉

Well, that's how they'll make any money, by now selling the DVD!

I'm so glad I got to watch it all today!

NPH appeared in a concert presentation of Sweeney Todd with the San Francisco Symphony and in Assassins on Broadway. Here are clips from both.

I'm getting the season pass on iTunes later on. He's GOT to have more than the three in mind.

Mmm a sequel would be great. Better yet, let's have some spin-offs featuring the other members of the Evil League of Evil. How about Fake Thomas Jefferson's Sing Along Blog?

The delivery and editing of the last line, the last word even, was was really tied the whole thing together in a nice little bow for me.

This was show was amazing, and totally Whedon-esque.

Dr Horrible is not gone! You can DL all three of the first episodes on iTunes for cheap - only $1.99 each. And if you shell out a whole $3.99 you can get those three episodes as a package deal AND free access to any future episodes. That's a pretty good deal for less than four bucks.
