with roughly a month left untill the 49ers are officially on the clock, I think it would be greatly served to take a look at last years draft and see who were the big winners and the big loosers. so what are the two teams you think that did the best, and the two teams that you think did the worst.
Best, 1.) Patriots. I think that they had the best draft, because somehow after wining 2 superbowls they had 2 first and two second round picks. they traded a number two choice for Dillon, the new face of the dynasty. And replaced Ted Washington with Vince Wilfork who will turn out to be just as good if not better than washington, a lot cheaper, and a lot younger. I also think that the sleeper pick for them last year was Ben Watson. I think that with the departure of some of their long time recievers, that you will see them in more two tight end sets utilizing Grahm and Watson (lets not forgett that Watson is another one of those 4.5 4.6 tight ends that can block. You will be hearing from him in Hawaii in no time.)
1b.)The lions are only asecond because they are building a team and the Pats crystalized the foundation for a dynasty. I think that it was sheer brilliance to capitalize on Clevlands aparent lack of conciousness, trade down 1 sopt, pick up a second round choice, move that pick into the first round and essentially get the same player they wanted.) long story short they got three picks for the price of two because the Brwons believed the hype, I'll get to them later. What it stacks up to is getting Roy Williams, rookie Phenom, Kevin Jones , led the league in rushing the second half of the season, and Teddy Lehman, runs in the mid to low (sometimes even sub) 4.4's at OLB. that's three pro bowl caliber players in one draft. The only concievable downside is that once Charles Rodgers is healthy again there won't be any excuses for Joey Harrington. As long as this team stops spending money like water in free agency look for these kids to grow up really soon.
Worst-Clevland Browns. They essentially traded Teddy Lehman and Roy Williams for Kellen Winslow. I am a fan of Tight Ends, don't get me wrong, but aws i said earlier, their mistake made detroits draft a raving succes. Even as naturally talented as Winslow is a Tight end will never be able to match the production of a premiere reciever, and Williams will probably prove to be in Canton Ohio some day. Not to mention the fact that Winslow was considered an injury risk, because he is really just a very big reiever, not a true tight end, and he and his big mout were sitting out most of the season due to injury, which a lot of people predicted. Now they have cut Jeff Garcia, because they didn't have a target for him to throw to, and will be trading for Trent Dilfer to learn a new offense and start, then comes in the Rookie, and they still don't have recieves, Wilima Greeen fumbles, you get the picture.
Sandiego Chargers-This might shock a lot of people, but I think that the Chargers could have had a great draft, they had the right ideas, but poor execution. It takes 30 starts for a QB to be fully ready. More than the Arival of Antonio Gates which did help, Brees just stepped into year three and was ready to play. when they traded with NY which i htink they should have done to maximize pick value, they could have chosen anyone for NY to draft and trade. and actually that would have made the compensation a little bit better for them this year beause a Reciever (Roy Williams) or a safety (Sean Taylor) would have been less valuable than Phillip Rivers, QB and they would have more draft choices. I think that this designation could be reversed if the pick they acquired turns out to be a home run, then that would just make them average, but to mess things up by not having faith in the guy you essentially traded MICHAEL VICK for is just plain crazy. and they are not out of the woods yet. If it turns out that Brees has to leave and that Rivers is the next Ryan leaf then htis season might be a tease before the long winter for the chargers.
everyone else doesn't have to go into that much detail, but i would like to see how everyone else rated last years draft.
